Chris Hedges described the modern day Liberal well:
Joe Biden, a shallow, political hack devoid of fixed beliefs or intellectual depth, is an expression of the nostalgia of a ruling class that yearns to return to the pantomime of democracy. They want to restore the decorum and civic religion that makes the presidency a form of monarchy and sacralizes the organs of state power. Donald Trump’s vulgarity and ineptitude is an embarrassment to the architects of empire. He has ripped back the veil that covered our failed democracy. But no matter how hard the elites try this veil cannot be restored. The mask is off. The façade is gone. Biden cannot bring it back.

Which is in no way material to the fact that said "vulgarity and ineptitude" runs an actual risk of descent into fascism, whereas milquetoast neoliberalism does not.

Y'all mistake suburban inconvenience for oppression and it shows.

What an absolutely idiotic take. We want to make the presidency a form of monarchy, while Trump is turning it into an actual monarchy? He's not an embarrassment to the architects of empire, he's their god damn wet dream.

The litany of "Its <Blanks> turn" suggests otherwise. That and the willingness to concoct any conspiracy theory under the sun to explain that seat not going to said people also suggests otherwise.

well the claim that America is a collapsing empire is not wrong, and since Biden is by all accounts a modorate republican who believes in maintaining said failing empire the problems that come with that aren't going away.

Interesting (and completely predictable) review of Faux "News" last night, their first evening post-Harris pick of "material".
Fox News was in full attack mode Tuesday night, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Kamala Harris. From depicting her as a "radical running mate" to mocking the pronunciation of her name to suggesting Joe Biden didn't actually select her himself, the conservative network's prime time lineup was in overdrive.
Frankly, if you stripped the network's programming of any identifying labels or names, and just looked at a transcript of the 8pm to 11pm hours, you'd be forgiven if you mistook the channel for a Trump 2020 campaign livestream.
It's embarrassing to an extend not yet quantified that this program still garners viewers.

Kamala Harris brings nothing to the table. She’s spent only three years in national office, she ran such an uninspiring primary campaign that she had to drop out before the voting even started, her fundraising ability is mediocre for a California politician, she has no signature policy idea. Her tenure as California AG was average, at best, with no signature reform under her tenure. Her appeal is all biography and identity and personal traits. To quote a friend, she has always come across to me as actually being what people accused Hillary of being.

This is what happens when you foolishly box yourself into a corner with a pledge. Biden picked the most convenient woman for the job instead of the best person for the job. She is very clearly not the best person for the job, and Democrats agreed in the primaries. Harris on paper is always better than Harris actually campaigning or debating.

Whatever. I’ll vote for a random name pulled out of a hat over the con man clown fake president. Democrats had better hope their gamble is right and that more Black voters will show up if a Black person is on the ticket; otherwise this is pure pandering. The fact that she stands a reasonable chance at being the 47th president solely because she happened to be the only Black woman in the country in high office is extremely exasperating.

I wouldn't really pay too much attention to what Fox is doing. They're basically spewing their propaganda to folks who would never vote anything but republican in the first place. The majority of folks who don't identify as republican get their news from more news worthy sources.
The median age of a prime-time viewer was 68 as of 2015. A study done by the Pew Research Center found that around 60% of Fox News viewers identify as conservative.

According to a 2013 Gallup poll, 94% of Fox viewers "Either identify as or lean Republican"

When is the VP pick not pandering?

Relevant because it could very well fuck the election. There are increasing reports of mail sorting equipment being removed/turned off starting to float about.

Sure seems like Trump's pick to head USPS and his recent "restructuring" of leadership are working overtime to intentionally ratfuck the election.

Get your mail in votes in EARLY, y'all.

I said this a couple of days ago, but Trump's Friday Night Massacre of the United States Postal Service top echelon of executives is now the biggest threat to the election. And the above is just the start. And I don't have the barest inkling of how to counter that move.

Another story from Washington State on the same topic.

Rewriting recent history because you reject the facts isn't an argument.

    https://www.vox.com/2020/7/2/2130170...-stacey-abrams

Harris was leading most national polls prior to the pick, with the only really serious competitor, in terms of popular support, appearing to be Elizabeth Warren. Just on a practicality side, while I prefer Warren's politics over Harris', Warren's Senate seat is far more precious and at-risk if Warren were the pick. Even if they were tied, popularly, Harris is the more-sensible pick, for that reason. And frankly, even that didn't seem to be the case.

Harris was the most popular option, among voters. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the candidate who A> had the most popular support, B> ticked the right boxes, C> serves to bring together two factions of the Democratic Party (as Harris and Biden were bitter opponents in the primaries), and D> poses the least risk for losses on the Congressional front, that option ends up being the pick.

This is another case of Trump shooting himself in the foot as a large portion of his base is elderly who tend to use absentee ballots and IMO would be more likely to want to mail in their vote totals. Then again according to the polling a lot of people would tend to prefer to vote in person. I still think this would hurt him more than Biden.
It depends. They can be targetting specific precints, in order to fuck with minority voters more.

Also, what the fuck is with this blatant level of corruption from Trump, is he so certain that he cannot win in a fair fight?

Amusingly, conservatives are struggling to find a narrative to go after Harris. She's either -

    A far left radical extremist

    or

A centrist Democrat intended to snub the progressive crowd on the left

    I eagerly await Schrodinger's Kamala.

"Kamala is a Cop", or "Kamala is a Radical Leftist"?

Am I the only one who thinks Bill Clinton is an odd speaker to have at the Convention with all the Epstein/Maxwell controversies going on? I mean I have no idea whatsoever if he was involved or not, but he did irrefutably lie about ever going to the island. I would think the DNC would want to quietly distance itself.
