Eh no, metals you can buy typically have special properties that make them either inert or electrically conducive. Their value isn't symbolic.

I've been stocking up on bottle caps for the eventual fallout.

The point is that they have actual real-world uses, that are not about simply generating wealth... but being part of physical (often industrial) products. Now, I'm not a fan of investing in them, because of their periodic volatility... but ignoring their actual uses seems foolish.

    That's a good plan.

Generating wealth would be a business and business is the best investment. However that doesn't mean you should put 100% of your net worth into businesses.

Okay so 0% in metals? It seems good to diversify a little bit, but to each their own. *shrug*

Okay if you're not hoarding then I wouldn't buy metals right now. Metals is a weird place to try to make a quick buck.
Tell us all about burying our treasure just in case everything else loses all value.
I'm optimistic about about real estate and the stock market but I still don't see why I would put all of my eggs in one basket.

Maybe you're right, I don't know. I got my Silver Eagles a while back. When it comes to metals I don't really care about the exact value, I just care about whether it will remain desirable in the future and useful in industry.

I mean, some of my mineral specimens could be metal ores. But I collect them because they're pretty, not to invest anything.

silver is low risk, others will prefer stocks or crypto, the later being degenerate risk I suppose, but high risk high reward
