Just early Hip-Hop and Electronic music in general. I don't recall people being overly interested in movies or games. That was not a thing really- maybe among boys. But I never knew boys who would bring up Star Wars or Magic The Gathering around girls. 100% zero chance of getting laid if that was the case.
Sports? New York is a big sports town and can be brought up casually in a crowd/gathering to at least pop conversation.

Hard to think back to then. I know back when I was in school wrestling was popular. Back in the late 90's before the WWE was a sanitized.
