you know... that question "why didn't she leave" can also sound like "if she was so abusive, why didn't he leave" and it is the question that seems to be aimed at Depp and so we come full circle of victim blaming here. where the truth to me, given the evidence seems to be that they victimized each other, but only Depp suffered the consequences... prior to this suit.

I want to point out that the point of this trial is to supposedly point out that Amber Heard was lying at the time she wrote that WaPo article. Its Johnny Depp that turned this entire trial into some sort of show for people to consume and cheer as if it was a sports games between two teams.
I've been watching the case for a while now and Johnny Depp straight up admits he was abusive to Amber Heard (defeating the point of the trial) and viceversa Amber Heard was abusive to Johnny Depp. IDK I've had bad vibes about this trial but had a whatever attitude when it started cuz I was of the mind that something bad was done to Johnny Depp and he was seeking justice
Hence why I'm confused why anyone is picking teams here. Let's just enjoy rich people publicizing how shitty they are to each other and acting in front of the cameras for our entertainment.
The whole point of the lawsuit from Depp was to win in the court of public opinion. That's it. The bar for winning a defamation case is ludicrously high. The bar for winning in the court of public opinion is frighteningly low.

The internet: where to every action is opposed an unequal overreaction.
To me, I feel like this trial is an example of how we've come not to rely on truth and facts before placing judgment on people for a wrongdoing that they might not have committed. We've seen a few cases now where people on social media put #believeallwomen trend on full blast when in reality we should be letting facts, reason and the court of law, not the court of public opinion, to lay judgment upon people because in a lot of these cases the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
See: The internet (at least the parts that it shows me when I brows places like Reddit) largely seeming to get on the pro-Johnny train. And don't get me wrong I can't entirely blame them - from what little I've seen it's a hilariously incompetent shitshow that makes Heard look way worse.
But the fact that folks are willfully choosing to see a flash from a monitor that was in front of Depp and Heard (separately) while she paused wiping her nose, as her "posing for the camera", and the videos apparently showing Depp leaving to crowds of fans and Heard just driving off (didn't bother to verify authenticity, so check me here if that too was some fake bullshit), he's crushing it.
I think he would have lost the case here as well since he was suing a newspaper, he may lose this case too. The burden of proof needed to prove a defamation case against a public figure is really high. However I think Depp has already won since the court of public opinion was his target and he had nothing to lose at the start of this.
I feel like Amber Heard really is the one who fucked up on so many levels here. Based on the evidence and testimonies so far.
However I still feel really bad for her, and don't think her recent testimonies were all acting performances. I kinda get the sense that she was genuinely in mental pain and frustration. I also feel like she truly did love him, but out of that passion, driven herself to do the craziest shit to maintain it. Not excusing any of the shit she did but.. many do these sort of things in those cases. Many of us act like teenagers when we're in relationships.
The thing is, I still definitely am rooting for Johnny, but I don't want any of the two to lose.. if it makes any sense.
Totally agree with you.
Honestly, I doubt either of them will win their lawsuits. They were both abusing, and in an obviously very toxic relationship. If anything, this shows how f**ked up these people's lives can be. Totally disconnected with reality.
The whole point of this sh*tshow, is that no one go near them because of all the bad press associated. Disney is after money, and they don't care whatsoever about the public image of supporting a wife beater. They only care if that will cost them money.
From the look of it, Depp will come out of this looking good. They'll sign him again if they think he will be profitable without affecting the public opinion.
Possibly. To be fair he was always far more popular than she was, and had fans even when most thought he actually was a wife-beater, or more accurately that said beatings were one-sided. Now said fans will definitely feel vindicated by the trial. I'm not sure it'll be enough for the public at large, but maybe.
TBH the most damaging thing for Heard in all this is probably the poop story. The rest is (sadly) garden variety cycle of abuse, but shitting on your spouse's side of the bed is just a special kind of gross and likely betrays an unhinged mind then and there.

I've personally heard that there were some issues with Judge Andrew Nicol having a conflict of interest in presiding over the case; however, I would take everything I put here with a huge grain of salt (maybe even a heaping full table spoon of it).
Andrew Nicol wrote and published a book in 2008 with a man named Geoffrey Robertson during his time employed by him at a place called Doughty Street Chambers.
Jennifer Robertson, Heard's legal council in this case, is currently an barrister working at Doughty Street Chambers, and is rumored to be mentored by Geoffrey Robertson.
During her time as council, Jennifer Robertson took Heard to a party with several other people connected to Doughty Street Chambers. This included individuals like Helena Kennedy, who is employed there, and Kathy Lette, Geoffrey Robertson's ex-wife, both of whom are rumored to be close friends with Jennifer Robertson. These two individuals are also rumored to be close friends with Camilla Palmer, who is Andrew Nicol's wife.
There's also that Andrew Nicol's son, Andrew Palmer, works for the UK's Talkradio, which is owned by Wireless Group, which is a subsidiary of News Corp UK, which is owned by Rupert Merdoch, who also owns the Sun newspaper.
Now, none of this is proof that the judge acted unethically, but there appears to be a few possible conflicts of interest.
