ERCOT urges Texans to conserve power Monday.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of worrying about whether the power will stay on every winter and summer. I'm going to remember this when I vote in November.

After last year's power outage, Uvdale, Odessa running out of water, and the disastrous COVID response, this could be the thing that finally sinks Abbott.

We're doing this again? Even the NYTimes has an article.

Texas’ electricity regulator warned residents and businesses to reduce the amount of power they use on Monday as the heat index was forecast to soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, putting a strain on the state’s grid and potentially leading to rolling blackouts across the state.

Thermostats should be turned up at least one degree Fahrenheit, and major appliances should not be used from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Central time on Monday, according to an alert from the regulator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages about 90 percent of the state’s electric load.

ERCOT does not expect systemwide outages. The alert is one step before an Energy Emergency Level 1, which would allow the regulator to tap electricity from other grids nearby when reserves are dangerously low. If the situation worsens, ERCOT can order transmission companies to cut off power to industrial customers and residential consumers.
Bailed out by nearby grids? That sounds like socialism!

No reports yet and it's the middle of the day. Texas might be okay.

    But...

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke has criticized Republican Governor Gregg Abbott after the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) once again requested that people cut down on their energy use on Monday.

"The governor of the 9th largest economy on earth — the energy capital of the world — can't guarantee the power will stay on tomorrow," O'Rourke tweeted. "We need change."

In another tweet, O'Rourke attacked the grid failure under Abbott's watch during a major winter storm in February 2021, leaving millions without power and resulting in the estimated deaths of hundreds of people.

"Remember Abbott's grid failure that left millions without power and caused hundreds of our fellow Texans to lose their lives? After that crisis, Abbott took millions in campaign checks from energy CEOs that he allowed to profit off it. Helps explain why he won't fix the grid," O'Rourke said.

I'll be curious to see how O'Rourke does in the election in November. I expect him to lose by 5%+, given the new voting restrictions TX put into place. But this electrical grid might piss enough people off to get some people to the ballot box. Of course, the GQP will just blame the "browns" for the problem, because GQP voters will literally believe anything they are told.

our Republican politicians have assholes for mouths and shit for brains. Rather be 'independent' than regulate or go back on national grid. I hope they sweat so much they lose 50lbs.

This state has been Republican run for 20 years. Cant blame Dems for their opwn mismanagement, but the rural wackadoodles dont understand anything but "Democrats bad cause R say so"

Pretty sure this is the second time this has aged like milk. And I'm sure it will continue to age like milk.

I mean, what's Raphael Cruz gonna do about it, fly down to Cancun and use his teenage daughters as an excuse again?

Aged like milk on a hot summer day.

It looks like they had plenty of capacity. Peak demand today was 78 mwh and they had 83 mwh capacity. Once demand starts to exceed 80 mwh, that's when people need to start getting worried.

Any word if the demand was low because they were told to take their foot off the gas pedal?

Very likely. Demand was slightly lower than ERCOT forecast of 79,761 mw. I read that a bunch of crypto mining operations voluntarily shut down operations and gave back 1 mw to the system.

So they still have a problem, then. Well, good luck Texas.
