    Underrated genius. RIP.

You know, I was never a fan of Hanneman, didn't like the lack of technique or general sound of his playing, but there's no doubt that his passing is sad as all hell. I'm glad that he got to spend his last 2 years at home rather than on tour, somehow I get the gist that it was for the better. RIP.

Looks like new Arckanum album leaked to youtube already.. supposed to be released may 10th. Also new Svartsyn, Dark Tranquillity, Immolation, Aborym and Burzum should be out this month, looking forward to those as well. Anything else I might have missed for May?

Burzum is going to be dark ambient, not black metal. That might not necessarily float your boat.

    It's black metal as well.

I read his thoughts on the album here: http://www.burzum.org/eng/library/ea...the_moon.shtml
and he says it'll be instrumental electronic music that is not metal. Dark ambient sounds about right.

Have to say I like a lot of his earlier ambient stuff, so could be good.

Only really bad thing about their old stuff is the production actually.
I felt that way about Surtur Rising as well, I listened to it a couple times, decided I didn't like it... But about a month later I decided to give it another shot and listened to it a few more times, it grew on me, now Surtur Rising is actually one of my favorite albums.

I do agree about their old stuff, I like it, but I can't enjoy it because the production quality is so... "meh".

Anyways, I must contribute to music, one of my current favorites, Stardust from Amaranthe.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

Blast beat, growling, and the typical black metal guitar riffs. Yes it is.

You're thinking of the wrong album.

"Sôl austan, Mâni vestan" will feature ≈58 minutes of instrumental electronic music, that can best be described as relaxing, slow-paced, contemplative and very much original. You have not heard anything like this before, although we can compare it to other electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream - and I guess to old electronic Burzum music as well.
Being an instrumental album, and a purely electronic album too, "Sôl austan, Mâni vestan" is naturally very different from e.g. "Umskiptar", my latest metal album. Yet again I have left behind the metal genre and have chosen a different path - but for no other reason than me following my Pagan spirit willingly to wherever it takes me. This time it kindly took me to East of the Sun and West of the Moon.

So, once again, no, it is not black metal.

Great. Then it may as well be worth my time to check it out when it's released. I don't care for black metal anymore unless it is avantgarde or proggy and I care even less for the heaps of manure Kristen was showering us with lately, but if it is dark ambient it should be cool.

I was referring to this when I was talking about Burzum. I didn't know Burzum has made such drastic changes.

    ...

We said *new* album. Filosofem is a classic, but hardly new.

Additionally, even 'back then', he released two wholly synthesised albums.

Yeah, you said new. But I also didn't think he changed this much. It's a completely different genre.

This is the album directly following Filosofem. Filosofem was released in 95-96, iirc. Daudhi Baldrs was released about a year and a half later.

    Haven't seen it posted yet:

2013 seems to be the year of the Hip-Hop for me, but this Altar of Plagues LP is astoundingly good.

It's beyond ridiculously good. Had the stream on non-stop repeat for days.

Need to go pick it up, but already spent a ton of money recently.

    New Altar? Sweeeet.

Need to buy it asap. I don't generally buy alot of albums, the vast majority is downloaded. But some things just need to be bought.
