those 3 mahouka koukou specials give a brief introduction into the basics of the series.

Anyway, the show as a whole was pretty mediocre. The girls were great, but for the most part the story/fights were boring. Definitely not as good as I first thought it would be. And I think Himeragi and Mirai from Kyoukai no Kanata have made me start hating Taneda Risa's voice.
