    Miami Connection (1987) I......so here's the synopsis..

"A martial arts rock band goes up against a band of motorcycle ninjas who have tightened their grip on Florida's narcotics trade."

    oh, it's def a 10 on cheesy 80's movies

    Jurassic World Dominion: 5/10

Ugh, so much missed potential. They hardly did anything with the dinosaurs adapting over the world and most of the movie takes place in a reservation/laboratorium which is just a retreat of some of the older movies which did it way better. Returning the OG cast was all just nostalgia bait which is something that blockbuster movies does a lot nowadays which actually gets tiring, they hardly add much to the overall plot and are just there to remind the audience that we used to have better movies. The giant locusts eating all the grain came out of nowhere and I find it a dumb plot point for the heroes for having to stop the bad guys. The movie should be a lot more about the actual dinosaurs which they kind of did in one act where we see the bad guys use dinosaurs to chase after the heroes throughout a city, thats what they should have done more off. And without wanting to sound racist it really felt like they just wanted to force a black woman into the main cast, she felt completley pointless and was just sucking screen time in a cast that was already way too big with the Jurassic Park & World cast.

I'm giving it some points because the dinosaurs looked good and some of the action was decent, most actors did their best and it had a couple of good scenes. But overall its a dissapointment.

OLD - 6/10. Interesting enough to watch once but probably never again.

Matrix 4 - 5/10. Probably being generous with that score. I really didn't like what they did with this at all, felt like they didn't know what they wanted to do either and just made something to milk the name for profit.

From what I heard if Wachowski didn't make it the rights would go back to WB and they'd just make it without her or something. So she was pretty much forced into it to keep some measure of control and thus the meta "fuck you" comments throughout the movie. TBH though everything after Matrix 1 sucked so even if some of the snarkiness was intentional, it probably wasn't intentional that the movie itself was bad.

    Top Gun Maverick - 10/10.

Delivered exactly what it should have in exactly the right way. Terrific nostalgia and lots of great ties to the first one's movie lines. I was hesitant to watch it because of all the room they had to fuck it up. But they killed it.

(interesting that I've seen good/great reviews from people who haven't seen the first one - wasn't sure how it would be from that perspective)

The Bad Guys: 9/10 nothing to really say but this sums up the ending pretty well.

    can't wait for the sequel!

Everything Everywhere All at Once: 8/10 I've had a crush on Michelle Yeoh ever since I was a kid and watched her Supercop a goddamn motorcycle onto a fucking train, so I was surprised to be underwhelmed with this movie, until... somewhere between dildochucks and hot dog hands, when I just kind of nodded and strapped in to start enjoying the weirdness.

The multiverse exposition was a bit clunky, but it didn't stop the bittersweet emotional moments from paying off, and for to existential bits to hit home.

James Hong is a legend. I didn't recognize Ke Huy Quan, like, at all. Good to see him in front of the camera again.

Regarding Henry: 6/10 Sentimental, manipulative, predictable, shallow, and wraps itself up way too neatly. I ate that shit right up.

Spanglish: 4/10 Paz Vega, Sarah Steele, and Cloris Leachman were delightful. Adam Sandler was OK. Shelby Bruce started to grate, but that was the point. Movie is fucking high if it expects me to feel bad about Tea Leoni's insufferable cunt of a character.

The Sadness: 7/10 It doesn't break new ground, but it was a solid ride, and I appreciate the director's willingness to not wuss out, and really push the depravity and gore... I just wish he gave the leads more to do than be attractive and sometimes yell/scream.

    Top Gun 2: 10/10.
This one was just outstanding. As much as I try to think of something that would dock even a half a point I can't. Loved the first one, loved the second one more - just no really catchy phrase this time.

    The Northman: 7/10.
The actors in their roles buoy the score. The movie was very strange at times and a bit predictable at others. After the movie the sentiment was "strange, but decent".

    St. Helens: 5/10.
You can tell it was an old 80s movie. Most made-for-TV movies aren't stellar, this one doesn't change that trend.

i don't mean to direct this at you specifically, really anyone who saw EEAAO could speak to this...
have you heard of or seen the first movie by the writer/director duo, swiss army man?

swiss army man is one of the hands-down best movies made in the last 20 years IMO (for what it is, which is a beautiful and metaphorical examination of loneliness and detachment and mental health issues) - so i was obscenely excited at them doing another movie.

but i think i kinda hated everything everywhere, and i can't figure out if it's because i had such galactic high expectations because of how amazing their first movie was, or if it's because of something about the movie itself that i didn't like.

the only other person i know who saw both movies also disliked everything everywhere, but just one person isn't a sample size... could just be we have the same weird taste in movies.

anyone else who has seen both (and perhaps specifically that loves swiss army man) have any thoughts?

    No worries!

Swiss Army Man was pretty damn good. Terrific performances, with bizarre and pitiable characters. When Hank's reality sank in, I remember feeling uncomfortable and gutted. I gave it a 9/10 back in... holy shit. 2017?!

Cute and I like the style. But doesn't really go anywhere you don't expect and kinda goes into easy predictability.

    Spiderhead 3/10

Eh. This was a very boring film. Nothing remarkable other than the premise and they do nothing with the premise.

    Buzz Lightyear 3/10

Eeehh. It looks good but the story is pretty dull. The movie doesn't really commit to anything with sharpness. The premise seems bizarre and doesn't match the tone or style of the material. Seemed unnecessary.

I think kids may enjoy it. But if, like me, you are someone who grew up with Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, the animated series then this movie doesn't hold a candle to that. When I think of Buzz Lightyear I think of that cartoon (aside form the movies obviously). Its colourful, its funny, its bombastic and it fits what you would think would be the story of Buzz taken out of Toy Story, its everything this movie isn't. which makes the movie hard to get into because of that fact. The show was just far superior, where as this is your slow typical space adventure movie with no flavour or identity.

I do think some of the imagery is very dull, its not typical Pixar, and usually I would be okay with that if it was at least interesting, unfortunately it is not. Speaking of dull even the music and score is kind of forgetful. which leads me to the characters which I feel no real attachment to, they just feel like they are there for decoration. The Cat which I thought was going to be annoying turned out to be pretty cool. I kind of dug the interactions between the cat and Buzz.

The story was not very interesting either, very standard typical space venture type of action that we have seen, and the the Zerg arc, and maybe this is me because of seeing the animated series, I did not like how it played out in this movie.

And while I think Chris Evans was a good replacement for Buzz over the replaced Tim Allen, why the hell did they not choose Patrick Warburton, who did the voice of Buzz in some of the animated spin offs and the animated series. But nit picks aside it was fine.

I was saying that maybe kids will enjoy it but thinking about it again, I feel the movie was very subdued and muted in looks, sounds and story. I am not sure there would be much for kids to grasp. It does have some good one liners and some funny bits but it couldn't hold my attention. Shame really. Who this movie was for?

Because one was a lead component in a massive franchise breaking sales records and can wave and smile on talk shows and the other is someone no one has heard of.

For some sad reason voice actors need to be stars now as well so they have a name to sell.

    Lionking (1994)

    Back in the day (9/10)
    Now (6/10)

Animated movies really is something completely different today and this comparison is extremely unfair. The music of the Lionking is still awesome but the animations feels very low budget compared to todays productions. When all the giraffes bow down for Simba in the beginning of the move there are like 4 of them and they are not looking good. Not to mention the background.
My kids still liked the movie though, and the music is now going non stop in the car.
Storywise I suppose it's ok but todays productions offer larger depth for sure.

I had low expectations for this movie but I was pleasantly surprised! A genuinely entertaining film with some decent practical FX.

Dagon: 5/10 A dumbass and his annoying girlfriend find themselves in the middle of some Lovecraftian Innsmouth shit. Where does a cecaelia keep its vagina? Asking for a friend...

Let Us Prey: 7/10 Decent enough, I just expected more schlock in my splatter porn. Some surprises here and there, with a reasonably satisfying ending.

Possession (1981): 8/10 A woman tells her husband that she wants a divorce. What could possibly go wrong? Fucking everything! Everything just somehow manages to get worse! Jesus Christ! Someone give Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill a hug!

    Jurassic World (2015): 6/10

Only took me 7 years to finally watch this... It was entertaining enough, a few things that annoyed me but no movie is perfect I guess.
