I wish that anyone who was sworn into any kind of office via politics would experience physical pain and cold sweat inducing night terrors whenever they lied to the public or did something opposite of what they said they would do when campaigning.

You find out that what you said to the public, wanting to help them, provide more benefits, overthrow corruption, stems much deeper than you ever thought possible. To reverse it, you would have to overhaul the way everyone thinks. This would scare them to the point that they would riot until they killed each other, not to mention you and everyone you know for bringing this to their attention. You then have to choose: lie and help them live the life they already have, or unravel all of society and face their wrath.
