Wasn't just Norse mythology. His world drew influences from all pre-Christian European folklore in general.

I need to rebuild my Army, used to have a 15,000 point SM army, and a 6k Necron one...

    ---

Opps I though this was where we posted our Armys. W40k and Warhammer fantasy both predate Blizzard, Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans, started out as a Warhammer RTS, Games Workshop(GW) which is a UK company didn't want an American company to make its 1st video game. Blizzard shrugged and made it anyway. When BLizzard made StarCraft they copied 40k intentionally, Terran's = Imperials, Zerg = Tyranids, and Eldar= Protoss, if you look at each unit in SC you can compare them to the 40k and see how close they really are.

In a major Irony GW Introduced the Tau based on the Protoss...

(before the Protoss there was the Eldar, and than came the Tau?)

you can do the same with Warhammer and WarCraft, but I think everyone understands the history of this.

Orks & goblins - Orks & goblins in space

    High elves - Eldar

    Dark elves - Dark eldar

Chaos gods, daemons and their followers - Chaos gods, daemons, cultists and chaos space marines

Tomb kings(think Scourge) - Necrons (skeletal looking robots, infused with souls of ancient race)

Dwarves seem to be only in fantasy version, and Tyranids(think advanced Zerg to SC fans) are only in WH 40k.

    Tyranids = Lizardmen

At first this may make no scence since Tyranids are now the Classic Bug Alien but in the bigging this was not the Case. Long ago there was the Zoat...

Some of the other warhammer races where also put into 40k, but they are minimized in roll.

Orks are awesome...they are mushrooms in warhammer lore

Space mushrooms ftw! (bio engineered species made to fight the necrons wasn't it?)

If you are bored at work or something google Deff Skwadron ... the comic is somewhere there online .

Would I be wrong if I where to assume that you believe "fantasy" means "medieval looking" and that "sci-fi" means "space future"..?

Even if I am not wrong, God forbid, I cannot see how you, who have made a profile at mmo-champion.com, does not realize what "mmo" stands for. If this is actually the case, which I certainly hope it's not, I am fortunatly at liberty to inform you that "mmo" is a shortening for "massive multiplayer online" and that it is not a synonym for "fantasy games", but a game genre for games where you are able to play with many players at the same time.

The Official party line from GW is that the 'Nids devoured the whole race.

if you thought the lore in WoW is good, the lore in 40k is much much better.

I just wish there was more info on the 13th company. becoming super killing machines by fighting 10,000 years in the realm of chaos. brilliant

Just a quick insertion - the Squats are almost certainly the 'Demiurg' from the Tau Empire, who brought the Ion Tech (what the Squats were famous for) to the Tau.

    Sorry, GW Loregeek here

We all do, the lack of lore on some of the Chapters is annoying at times. Especially when you see the bucket loads of crap Smurfs get.

The Dawn of War games are a good way to get some basic 40k lore.

yes GW had plans to do that, they have wanted to reintroduce a Dwarf race, however because of the joke that Sqauts became is why they where eaten by the 'Nids. GW wishes we would forget the Sqaut, they killed their own forums because of all the Squat posts.

I just hope that dark millenium doesn't turning into another failed client like Warhammer online did. I'd luv playing a space marine in DM.
The sims lies, don't trust them....

Long Story short Warhammer is why blizzard is succesful

it's pretty much a Gorier, Darker, Funnier, Sexier (not really, Red Rage ain't sexy *If you know warhammer you know that joke*) and all around better version of Starcraft and Warcraft.
I'm glad to have multiple personalities, if i didn't i would be talking to myself, and that's just insane.

lol. I have a friend that has a large army of Chaos Dwarves. Sucks they yanked em back in the 90's.
I am stoked beyond belief for Dark Millennium. Which is kinda funny since that was a expansion back in the 90's. Based on the Dark Angels Chapter. I'll be playing all races at least a little. But Orks are going to be me mains!! WAAAAAGH

Oh yeah i completely forgot to say, Chaos Bolt melts your face for 1337 Damage

Just as Planned, Tzeentch all the way.

edit some would argue their so similar that you can connect the two as 40k in the future of the fanatasy, but canonically thats not the case, dispite the similarites.

I mean if you want proof next time you look at the eldar look at their ears, they are the eldar race, aka space elves. Orks, Humans (witch hunters for proof) Then you got Chaos, Same gods and what not.

Just be thankful one day (read: never because GW doesn't expand their lore) Slaanesh will wipe out the space elves. Sick of playing games with eldar and hearing Banshees yell "WE ARE SUPERIOR" at me.

According to Lore in 40k, when Slaanesh was born the Dark Choas Energy released nearly did wipe out the Eldar. Just saying it happened already.

Actually Both are the same in Humor and Grit, it was because Blizzard made video games at the right time that they became what they are, the Irony is that Blizzard took GW's product and made a video game with it and became the biggest video game company in history.

the lore differences come from keeping the Video game IP just different enough as to not be sued.

Since I was a Fan of both since the 90's, and I follow the lore of both. I can honestly say that Warhammer has the better lore, however the MMO May or may not be good. the fantasy Warhammer game just failed to impress, everything was good, just not good enough. we will wait and see with the 40k MMO, since a different company is making that MMO. But in the end the game which will pull me away from wow, is called Real Life. I just don't have the time to do it like I did.

I do love tabletop gaming, but Warmachine got me over Warhammer. They're working on an indie game, but its not enough for me. The lore Privateer Press cranks out I would call unrivaled if they were willing to kill off main characters. I worry about a future of "it was only a setback!"

That said, some great things did come from Games Workshop. I love the mushroom green skins. Dakkadakka! deserves a mention just for being such a great phrase. They probably deserve some of the credit for the Warcraft/Stracraft IP as well.
