What's with the lack of punctuation? You're now my tool of the week. UL

OT (where OT seems to be whether OP was a tool or not): I also work in customer service. A lot of the time I'll be personally blamed for problems that I didn't create, or be put down for going above and beyond to help them. They often see me as the company; usually it's just best to let them have their moment then advise them on how best to proceed.

At first I took it so seriously I couldn't eat properly any longer. Now I've learnt not to take it so personally. There's some people I can't help; but the majority make it worthwhile.

Seems most of the people in this thread didn't even read your post fully. Try not to take them personally either :P

As written you appear to be the tool in this story.

I have about $300 worth of food in my fridge that would be destroyed from a lengthy power outage.
I could not prepare proper meals for my 19 month old son with a lengthy power outage.

If I called you being upset my power had been cut out and we found out that it was due to an error from the billing address being wrong I would certainly hope that you would have some decency and help me out as best you could - rather than hang up on me.

I'll give you a grain of salt - and assume that she was extremely belligerent and that you ended for that reason rather than to be even more hurtful in an already difficult situation - but in any case - as written - you are the tool in this particular story sir.

then maybe you should have paid your bills

Wow... I did not see this coming. Everyone siding for the women when they even finsh reading my OP. I'm speechless right now. I have tried to make this a fun thread but, instead people decide to ruin it based on their own biased opinion of my own story. Anyway... thank you to those who attempted to continue the thread as I orginally intended.

Is this 'second home' one that her 93 year old mother owns but was put in her name to help manage as her mother has a bad memory and health issues?

Is this 'second home' her 32 year old daughters house who is a single mother with 2 children in the house, but could not qualify for a loan so her mother put it in her name?

While having "second home" certainly gives one pause for how much 'hardship' the lady can have been in; one thing is certain - power had been cut due to a mis-communication about billing addresses.

    I don't know. The poster doesn't say.

The thing is in most areas there are laws about cutting off power. Its a life-line type of service - especially in winter & summer (depending on your region either can be deadly). I'm quite sure the company he worked for complied with the letter of the law and sent out proper notifications so technically he was 'right' he complied with all the laws & regulations.

The reason people have issue with this is we all know: it could have been us that got our power cut off; and we find ourselves emphasizing with the lady more than the customer service rep.

As a customer service rep myself I know how this works. I in fact have taken some of the most verbally abusive calls that I could not even begin to relate back to you in a forum like this; I understand why you might have hung up. I've had to do it a couple times myself.

However at all times I try to place my feelings on the side of the customer and do every thing my company will allow me to do to help them.

Position yourself on their side "Ma'am I'm so sorry your power got cut off, but it requires a technician in person to turn it back on. I'm sorry that happened. Here is how we can get that fixed together..." goes a long way to de-escalating a person vs "You didnt pay, we're cutting you off!"

    thats my 7 cents

So this has degenerated from a boring story that I think was intended to be funny into the makings of a flamefest.

read the op before posting about it. she states that it is indeed her second home that is being disconnected. If she can afford to even RENT two homes let alone own the homes then she has no justifiable reason to not pay the electricity bill that she must have earned because MOST companys wont charge you for a service (electricity) that you arent using!

TOOL of the week for lack of a few ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I can handle that, always prefered maths to English anyway. If you read the OT I get the the distinct impression that albeit he may have been curteous he obviously enjoys the discomfort he is able to bring his clients due to his postition of power.

She may have truely been a TOOL but the way the OP tells the story it seems more like he is simply getting his jollies off at her discomfort and the extra discomfort he was able to add to her day.

Seriously, next time I'll just go with the bold from the start since people seem incapable of thinking. Just because she says "oh it's my second home" doesn't mean it is. There, is that simple enough?

I'm not siding with the woman, I'm siding with the people who say that you're doing forum posts wrong by telling others to "keep it to themselves". This is a hugely popular website, not everything you get will be playful punches to the shoulder and brofists over you being in the right.

  12. #32
Im with you OP, im shocked at how many people have sided with the woman in this case, if she wanted her power back she should have said right, ill make the payment and you switch it on, complaining about a service being cut off after not paying for it is stupid. It's like getting angry for your wow game time running out the night before a raid and getting angry at blizz, retarded.

I mean fine... troll away. My intentions were to just create a friendly game on the forums about tools. Just because you agreee or disagree doesn't mean to goahead and derail the thread.

Honestly, if she would have said "hey you cut my power, its winter, I have three kids and we are going to freeze" people would be willing to help, insted she acted like a high and mighty bitch and then proceeded to tell him it was her second home, I wouldnt have helped her either.

I agree with the OP here. People need to take responsibility for their accounts and such. She should have known that she'd missed payments by checking her bank statements, etc. Taking a few minutes out of her day to call the company and explain the situation to them and request perhaps a little help/more time to pay what was due would have yielded far better results that swearing and name calling.

    On Topic:

Tool of the week? All the people here trolling the OP's thread.

    Enjoy.
Back to your bridge, you evil Troll!

People always want something for nothing. The lady could of been in a tight spot or not... the fact that she used faul language and yelled makes her the tool in my opinion. You may agree you may not... I'm just distrubed that this many people feel the need to derail thi thread when it was perfectly intended to be fun for everyone.

Having suffered from a 42 hour power outage 2 weekends ago I can understand her frustration. However she dealt with the situation wrong, just as the OP did. Having worked as Tech Support for a business ISP, hanging up on a customer is a major no no. Hanging up on a customer would have probably resulted in a dismissal or the very minimum disciplinary action (and I've dealt with some really abusive customers!).

I'm not saying she had a right, but in my experience, you both handled it wrong.

However back on topic, I did get to speak to many a customer that made me want to headbutt my desk repeatedly....

Like the 67 year old gentleman who infected his computer with virus' by (his own admission) "Been looking at one of those free porn sites".

Or the gentleman I once spent 40 minutes after my shift ended trying to help him understand how to do an online credit card transaction (well not what we supported but I thought it would be a quick fix!)

After 40 minutes he finally slipped up and said "Right I've put my card in...." and I was like "WOOOOAH! Put your card in? Don't you mean card details?" "No, I've put my card in the card slot" I'm seriously confused at this point. Poor bloke was putting his credit card in the floppy drive thinking it would work.....

Wow you guys are retarded, and so are the 2 first posters after the OP and whoever else sympathizes with this loon of a lady.

She is a RETARD. She's trying to make excuses for why she didn't know her power was being turned off, both of which are complete BULL. The BIGGEST red flag should have been...YOU HAVEN'T PAID FOR 2 MONTHS. Besides that, she's an ADULT, she should take RESPONSIBILITY instead of making the DUMBEST excuses that make her sound like a child. And then she proceeds to bug out and name calling? Yeah, she's a trashy tool.

Most companies will work with you and turn your power back on until next pay day if you just make a payment towards what you owe, doesn't have to be the whole thing, at least mine is like that, so this lady went about it all wrong. She is a huge tool.
