2023-24 NHL Season Thread.

I wasn't at all surprised to see Phaneuf and Kessel on Chara's team, but that's going to be a good setup for the teams when you have half the leagues top scorers on one team, along with two of the harder shooters in Chara and Phaneuf (I think Phaneuf had one of the hardest shots that wound up being a goal against Detroit back in December). All I know is both guys got rifles for shots, I just hope someone doesn't get killed by being on the receiving end of one of their shots. I would like to see Malkin up the middle for Kessel and Lupul, might be interesting.

its the only time Sens fans have actually out numbered leafs one.. besides.. it an all-star game..and a complete waste of time, the only guys who are enjoying it.. the ones who don't have to particpate

You know you'll be singing a different tune when all the Leafs are on the winning team.

Anyway I decided to take a shot at what the lines are going to be, curious what other people think too. Unlike most people lately, I openly admit I enjoy the All Star game. I just wish it was after the Stanley Cup so players wouldn't have to worry about the push.

Line 1: Good Luck Touching the Puck
Pavel Datsyuk, C, Detroit
Marian Gaborik, RW, NY Rangers

Line 2: And That's How Quick and Elliott Lost All Their Confidence

*As a Leafs fan I'd rather see Malkin here, but I think he'd be a bit more dangerous with the Chicago linemates.

Line 4: Unfortunately, I Find These Three to be the Leftovers of Chara's Wingers.

*But still better than anyone I have in Ottawa's first line.
*Honestly, a part of me would like to see Benn playing with Datsyuk and Malkin out of sheer curiosity, but I just don't see it happening at the ASG and I'd rather he'd be 100% healthy in that situation.

Period:
1. Price - If Defensemen don't leave him open, he'll do a great job; pretty much his life story. If he's not playing with confidence, better to get him out of the way early.
2. Howard - I feel like he'd do well, no matter when he plays.
3. Thomas - Can handle pressure the best, if you're winning (which, they should manage even if Thomas let's in 6 goals) you want him in to rob players of what should be sure goals. All he has to do is what he did to Vancouver last year over four games, all wrapped into one.

*Girardi is a great at blocking the puck, Karlsson is very good offensively, should balance each other out very well. Both of these guys have also had a lot of TOI (Girardi is #1).

*Don't want to say they're leftovers, just see the other two pairs as more interesting matches. Also wanted to put one offensive d-man with a defensive d-man, which Alfredsson's team does have.


Period:
1. Lundqvist - Honestly, I think the only chance Team Alfredsson has of winning is if Lundqvist can stop a hundred pucks in the first period.
2. Quick - Had a couple of good years, has the most shutouts.
3. Elliott - Least in goals against of goalies that have played more than 3 games, let him finish the game off.

*He took the best goalies on paper; Thomas and Lundqvist are the only two I've really seen who can play like they're from another world.
