I thought it was a baby spider considering it evolves into garavantula (which is a spider), but I suppose that's a possibility... Now that I think about it that way, I'm disgusted by it.

Bulbapedia says it's both.

Its Pokédex entry states that it latches onto to larger Pokémon to drain the static electricity off them, so it may be based on a tick, though its size seems to imply it is based on a mite. Like its evolution, it is also based on a tarantula, or a jumping spider.
