Stats: Characters that reached LVL 85 in Cataclysm
More interesting stats for you this week! With all the talk about the death of WoW, we decided to take a look at the percentage of characters that made it from being level 80 during Wrath of the Lich King to level 85 today. These stats compare a sample of 1M+ characters from early 2010 and checks which players reached level 85. Keep in mind a few things before interpreting these stats:

  • Death Knight is the least leveled class because everyone leveled one to 80 during WotLK to be one of the cool kids. Including a fair amount of people who ended up not liking it.
  • People didn't hit the "Nothing left to do on my main character, better reroll!" wall that they encountered in WotLK, raids were properly balanced and people didn't spend their first months steamrolling Naxxramas.

Class Playing Cataclysm
Mage 37.82%
Druid 36.84%
Hunter 36.47%
Priest 36.30%
Warrior 35.83%
Shaman 34.77%
Warlock 34.17%
Paladin 33.45%
Rogue 29.56%
Death Knight 25.58%

Poll: Are you still playing WoW?
We've been working on the stats above for a few days and we're wondering, are you still playing WoW, or just reading MMO-Champion to know when to come back?

Not surprised by a lot of these numbers tbh. :/

I figured there would be more paladins though.

I hate a number of the class changes, leveling to 85 sucked.

It was a long process it felt, quit boring (I did easy leveling enough already), instead of feeling like I was getting stronger I was getting weaker, feeling like crap, running out of many on every toon that used it, hard to solo more than 2 mobs, AoEing = waste of mana and time/space on bar, again all the breaks between mobs i had to take, dispel nerfs (affecting PvE too) self healing/siphoning total negligible crap for PvE 81-85.

Everything just took longer to accomplish less, I am okay with that at max level, but not during the boring grinding stages of rep, quests, leveling and obtaining measly blues and greens.

The content of this game is just stale, and having to wait for ever for my favorite role - DPS - totally sucked for endgame. I hate tank and spanks, I did some healing at 85, I hate it because I hate worrying about mana over keeping up on heals instead. Besides healing in this game is way too much of a passive role, its not active and it doesn't help in pushing fights, kind of the same with tanking (but I don't like being the one at the mercy of the healer) dealing negligible damage.

So much stuff is going for Cata I JUST DON'T LIKE, class changes to the content (of dungeons and raids) was either changed in so many negative ways, or just too old and boring AI that beats a tank a whole fight and nothing else.
Did you ever notice that you only leveled 5 levels instead of 10? So the mobs hit harder and the progress was slower since it was only FIVE levels? Did you really want progress of 5 levels like 5 of 10 from prior expansions? Bored faster? lol.

On a different matter: I take insult with Chaud's statement about "people didn't spend their first months steamrolling Naxxramas." Naxxramas destroyed my first serious guild (10 man) I was in because the gear requirement was too big a difference from dungeon gear. Blizzard developers admitted as much (can't source since it was on the old WoW forum). H Naxx was the only way many many players on my server even got to experience half of it, let alone all. If it was a decent group, it took ~4hrs. A difficult PuG with lots of replacing and wipes was just shy of ~6hrs.

    P.S. h4rr0d, I fixed your patch number.
    Dungeon gear was lvl 200, naxx10 was lvl 200... naxx25 was 213

How exactly was is too big? Or was it sarcasm and I didn't get it? lol.

The only thing they ever admited was that it was too easy.

The best thing about internetz is that we take everything posted as true, lol. Tons of "I quit this game long ago" or "I'm still playing, so I can say all about state of wow and..." and, of course, tons of "yes" and "no" on the poll...

I still play and I voted "no" just to help increase the numbers lol.

I didn't re-roll because Cataclysm's 80-85 levelling was vastly more tedious than 70-80, and I really didn't have anything to look forward to. I swear that a bunch of people re-rolled in WotLK so many times because it was FUN to do so. It's not so fun to do so in Cataclysm. There's a reason subs are down, and it sure isn't that Cataclysm is more enjoyable or fulfilling than WotLK (despite some parts - basically only raids - being better).
This is just how you think about the matter dude, this isn't fact or anything. I've just leveled my 8th 85 and without doubt I can say that I love leveling in Cata way more then WotLK. I rerolled in WotLK because I reached the peak on my main in the guild or because I wanted to try another class, not because WotLK was OMFG EPIC! or OMFG FUN! And it's pretty much the only thing stopping me from leveling another alt. OT: The % of people not playing yet reading forums is quite big atm - yet I don't worry about it. I don't care about the people that left either. Tbh, I don't even see how most people claim it's dying, bad or affecting their gameplay in anyway... Sure, if some friends quit playing it does, to a degree.
I still play and I voted "no" just to help increase the numbers lol.
And this further affects the poll results, which is ok because so many people take the poll or some news things waaaaaay to serious anyway.

This goes along the same lines, I have been posting about since the release of WOTLK. You cannot go back on promises and say well "it's not in our time-line anymore." or "maybe later." LFRaids Dance Studio Firelands at relelase Abyssal Maw Faster and more concurrent patches. I guess, I read smaller but more frequent updates. Harder 5 man Heroics This is the only for this expansion. I understand Blizzard isn't perfect, but not make statements basically saying "coming soon(tm)" Then leave it at that. That shit is becoming very much not tolerable. We are paying customers and we speak with wallets. I have said this before, y'all hate will hate me. The casual audience is the life-blood of any game... period, then end. Hard core people are fans for a reason. That why it's short for fanatic : http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fanatic We fanatics are not the life-blood of the genre anymore, we have been usurped. I have been a vet of Mass market MMOs since the release of UO. I was on MUDS before that. I admit, we lost. It leaves a bitter taste yet I say we started it all, we are the "Funkmastas" of MMOs. I don't like where the market has turned so I speak with my wallet. Yet I cannot hate it either. Progression players(Fanatics) vs. Maintenance players(Casuals). So I ask this question: Would Blizzard, in the end, like to keep it's Hard-core players base, over its casual players base. Casuals win, End of story.

I find it pretty humorous that my classes leveled to 85, in order, were DK, Rogue, Warlock, Paladin, and Shaman. Of course, I broke the (nearly) perfect chain by levelling a mage recently. Ah well.

Lol, what? Big gear difference? Guilds were clearing Naxx in Sunwell gear.

"With all the talk about the death of WoW" There isn't "all the talk". There's "some discussion". Those who discuss it are those who don't play, won't play or have beef with it. Regardless of the state of a game, there is always going to be such a group of people. People leave. New people join. Don't hype a non issue.

I leveled a Paladin, Priest, then Death Knight from 80 to 85, made a ton of gold, spent some time raiding, got bored. Then leveled two characters through the new zones, up to outlands before quitting. Nothing left that interested me.

Because alot of people would bother to log on several machines to vote, right?

vote twice from the same machine and you'll get a
"Thank you, we have already counted your vote. " message

SWTOR and GW2 are around the corner, I personally quit along time ago to prevent getting burnt out, which WoW is extremely good at doing.

I picked no I'm not playing WoW for the Poll, but I don't read to know when to come back, I only like to stay current, and I'm really hoping MMO-Champ will jump ship to SWToR when it comes out or at the very least update about them because any way you look at it this is "the" fansite.

Mage/Druid/Shaman/Warrior are some of the higher up there, no wonder as most rerolled these 4 classes for FoTM pvp play, so that statistic can be slightly skewed.
