WoW Down to 5.6 Million Subscribers
Blizzard has their Q2 2015 earnings call today, announcing that WoW is down to 5.6 million subscribers at the end of Q2 2015. This is down 1.5 million from the Q1 2015 call that listed WoW at 7.1 million subscribers.

  • More developers are working on World of Warcraft than ever before.
  • The Warcraft movie is a chance to expose Warcraft's lore to new audiences and increase interest in World of Warcraft overall.
  • The subscriber count was down in the east, in part due to Diablo 3 release.
  • Patch 6.2 helped to stabilize the subscriber count in the last few weeks of the quarter.
  • Blizzard has been listening to players experiences during Warlords of Draenor and thinks players will be excited by the announcement this week
  • Tokens are included in this timeframe, as they launched in Q2.
  • Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and Destiny combined now have more than 70 million registered players.
  • Blizzard Entertainment had the largest online player community in its history, with Q2 MAUsB up 50% year-over
  • Hearthstone engagement metrics nearly doubled year over year, largely on account of the new content and new platforms
  • Diablo III has now sold-through over 30 million units life-to-date globally.

Not one to complain very much but WOD has been the worst expansion by a long shot. If the next one is close to as bad as this one I'll be done too.

In particular, blizz needs to decide whether or not they want to focus on making the game an MMO again, or catering to casual players that aren't interested in MMO's. Blizz has played both sides of the fence and it's starting to not work on either side.
easy to say than do because alot of the raiders have become casuals too.. and then there's shareholder you have to answer to.. Blizz across the board is set, but i'm sure they don't want WoW to become non profitable anytime soon..

FF ARR is appealing to the casuals too so the hardcore thing isn't the way to go, and in case you haven't realize the MMO market is much smaller than 5yrs ago and there is alot of good free mmo out there..

This expansion is a much bigger failure than any MMO, or maybe all the failed MMOs combined. It managed to lose a staggering 5 million players in less than 1 year. Yet, surprisingly, no heads are falling.

They really had a huge chance of relaunching WoW's popularity with WoD, they've managed to get back to 10 million players. Then... ZBANG... fuck ups after fuck ups... Garisson... flying... Ashran... Apexis grind... Insane reputation grinds... Arrogant developer statements... Retarded CM comments that proves they don't even play this game (Bashiok and his fucking retarded no flying defense). All the misinformation or lies or whatever the fuck those were about garrison features that never came to life, zones that never existed or were finished in time, state of flying and so on and so on.

I blame catering to the bads. They sub and then faceroll through LFR and unsub. 0 challenge=0 incentive to stay

You're complaining about someone tagging mobs before you did. You're insufferable.

If I had to break it down, there was something majical about the game in 2005-2006/7. things have changed because they short changed the community. LFR is and was a horrible idea, and i wish people could see that. this game was about who you know and what status you could reach at the start. Now its nothing more than a grind fest and you dont have to know anyone. i still watch vodka on stream, mainly killarslol, because those guys represent the best this game ever had to offer, to become part of the elitist. thats what we shot for as noobs. i miss those days. they where the best. this community needs to go back to why they fell to n love in the first place, and what we see today does not resemble those days. method is whats wrong with the game today, this is not a profession, its a game, and at the end of the day it should be better

After epic fail garrison to put shityard was the worst thing ever. I all together stopped playing, gave away every WoD item I had since I know: I don't care about it anymore.

No fly, make every profession as dumb as possible, removing ther reason to be herbalist / miner did not help at all. One more "no fly till end of expac" and I'm 100% I won't buy the next one. Fly is a core of this mmo. That was the reason I did evey loremaster. Now Blizz tied it to achis what it was for killed the whole purpose....

Nicelly done Blizz I hope you proud to drive away millions of gamers...

flying did mean something back in the day. You finally made it with the big boys.....now the stripped it away with everything else.

Yeah, dude, take away the only content left for the vast majority of players. Apart from garrisons of course, that's really cool

Even more impressive, it's still 1.5M down even with their 180 turn on "no fly" statement. I'm affraid to imagine how many it could be without this turn.

if sco devoted this time to being good at his job, maybe he would be. sloot is a professional smartass according to social media...lol. wow...that says enough for me.
