I got 17 so far and I can already buy Rainbow because I got the level to do so...
But I fear that the only way to get gemstones without spending a year on the game... is to buy gemstones at the store for like 10 euros or more...

Besides, getting Rainbow Dash is a quest objective, probably one of the lasts. I still am doing quest objectives til day say me to get Rarity, which is the 4th mane 6 you are suposed to get and can get when leveling.
You start with Twi, then a bit later, not much, you get Pinkie Pie, later on after buying the entire apple family in the game (Big Mac, AppleBloom and Braeburn) they finally give you the quest of buying AJ. Rarity is the next one to get, yet like AJ, they will probably ask for Sweetie Belle first, and she costs 75 gems, and Rarity costs 90 gems.
On the other hand, after Rarity, comes Fluttershy who you unlock to be bought at lvl 29, and she costs 47500 bits.
If 3 of the 5 mane 6 you have to buy cost bits, why make 2 and specially making other quest objectives of the game cost Gemstones which are only spawned rarely by finding Derpy Hooves on the map or like I mentioned before. It's kinda defeat the purpose of working "hard" or patiently of the game.
Instead, they are like... "Yeah, you wanna progress? Well, get a sack of 1500 gemstones for 90 euros!"... It truly discourages you a bit if you know what I mean...
