Think of WoW as a human being. At the moment wow has just hit 50, still got a lifespan for another 30 years. My guess is one or two more expantion and it craps out.

It's been over a -month- since the dec 31 numbers, they've probably lost another 200-300k just because there is no new content. Must really suck for them.
Too all you "Wow is dead" sayers:
Please show me ANY other MMORPG that is 8 yrs old with 9+ Million subscribers. know what? You're not gonna find a single one
I dont see this as a big deal. Subs tend to drop after a new game release. There is this flurry of interest, then it settles down to normal routine. Losing about 4% isn't that dire, I would call it expected with an older game.
Other games are holding on with anywhere between 0-1 million players/subscribers. Yet somehow we're supposed to get up in arms about WoW having 9x that many people? I can see exactly how it's nothing to worry about and I'm currently playing Rift. Throwing around 'fanboy' because people have common sense and not knee jerk reactions is silly.
BAD WOLF
Only down to 9.6 million. LOL Sure 10 million is a nice big round number but 9.6 million isnt too shabby.
oh noes it didnt drop to 8million wow totally unexpected -.-
So now WoW and Subway can say they the same thing: their subs arent measuring up.

You don't have any common sense. That's why I call you a fanboy. Because you're too blinded to see what's so obvious with a little thought put into it.
Cata lost subs because of a lack of content. That's logical and expected to happen in any game. Guess what just happened? Sub loss WITH content. What do you think that means? That means they are in deep shit, because even if they pump out content on a regular basis, people are giving less of a fuck more and more.
This is so obvious to see but apparently you can't wrap your head around it.
The numbers are useless for informing the players. Players have already made up their mind and regardless of what the numbers are, they will use it justify their stance. Loss of 500k: "OMG abandon ship!!." If it had been a gain it would have been: "OMG the bots are overtaking us, abandon ship!!" What I'm saying is that the numbers are useless for a community that has already made its mind up one way or another.
I have largely enjoyed MoP so far once I began playing again. What I have not understood is Blizzard's decisions. If they had the most subscribers during Wrath, why deviate from that model of content? Sure some attrition is to be expected as time goes on, but heavily revamping major parts of the game (talents and whatnot) between every expansion has to account for some of the fluctuation in numbers. Why would you fix what the numbers told you wasn't broken?
Holy shit, this already has 6 pages what the helll people?!?!
Wait. This first of all is "as of December 31, 2012." Almost 1 and a half month since. Second. People are not quite getting this. I've never actually been bothered about subscription numbers as I don't care. I just find it silly to look at. But saying " WoW they lost 500k so what "That takes the cake. That is 500 000 players that quit playing. Giving that 1,5 months, which is half a quarter year. I'd say 1 million is more to the reality. That's just showing that many people are leaving due to how the game is going.
Now don't get me wrong, you like the game, play it and don't bother about other players. But there is from 500 000 - 1 000 000 players that left the game because they're not enjoying the game anymore, or that the game is going in the wrong direction. You might not care, but those 500 k - 1 m do care.
Ah, what I imagined, a minor decrease in the number of subs. Nothing substantial.
Lol @ The Daily Blink
The last time I went to a big party, and a couple people left, I don't recall everyone immediately declaring the party over.
Can't say I'm surprised had a couple of friends I've played with for a few years quit recently due to losing interest.
I honestly cannot say I blame them, if it wasn't for my guildies I would of cancelled my own subscription long ago.
