If anything, the books are far worse and more graphic in regards to what happens. Unfortunately Game of Thrones is a victim of its own success. It's very popular and very mainstream - so a lot of people who aren't the intended target audience watch it and then get outraged because they're the kind of people who would rather stifle creativity or censor stuff rather than admit than maybe, just maybe the show isn't for them and they aren't suited to appreciating the full picture.

Westeros is a horrible place. Bad stuff happens to good people. Bad stuff happens to bad people. No one is safe and that's what makes it thrilling - and whilst an argument can be made that some of the nudity and violence is over the top, so what? It's not glorifying violence or rape. Nor is it encouraging people to go out and glorify violence and rape.

How do you feel about this?
Is there enough control on these cable shows?
We should not be "controlling" art/media/etc.

This does not prove rape culture exists.

When you showcase something, it doesn't mean you promote it.

They have rape scenes because rape was (and still is in some places) very much common place on women. Women in the setting of Game of Thrones were very much the objects of Men, and as such rape is going to occur. Just because that's the case, doesn't mean they promote it ...

Who cares? There is nothing wrong with nudity. "What feels like..." doesn't mean it was actually that long.

Don't watch it with family = success?

    I agree.

I am incapable of separating anything that is portrayed in entertainment from reality. Ever since Game of Thrones debuted I feel an immense need for dragon eggs.

    Send help.

What can I say, people are retarded at times.

Well, the BOOKS can promote it, since it's all there in the books. The show, does not. As far as I remember, no one was raped in the show at all, not even fucking close. I think the closest really was Dany by her brother and Drogo, but even that is a stretch.

It's nonsense, fictional works aren't responsible for what people do in real life, nor do they cause it, unless someone was messed up in the head in the first place.

That crap is about the same "league" that people blaming video games for everything bad.

"Anders Breivik played WoW" (he apparently did, or so I heard), so what? There was about 12 millions of players at the top of game's success, you didn't suddenly see an influx of mass murderers all around the world.

Soccer game won't make me a soccer player.
Car racing game won't make me a race driver.
Finishing Mass Effect series multiple times didn't make me a professional soldier (if you gave me a gun, I probably wouldn't be able to hit a barn, seeing as I never held one).
Why is Mortal Kombat supposed to make me a psychopatic murderer, again?

I think people are just super butthurt about the reality of life in the Middle Ages. HAM was a life philosophy back then. People have absolutely no reckoning of how things actually were; SOIAF is a very, very realistic portrait of the times (largely because, ignoring the magic, it's lifted right out of English history), and rape was a thing. You can not like it, you can be disgusted, but you're an idiot if you try to censor it.

Besides, it's all fake anyway because they're actors. It's not like Sophie Turner actually got raped on set.
    Cheerful lack of self-preservation

There are always extremist groups around that take things too far. They are hardly a mainstream group, and I would guess this is as much PR as anything else.

Also included in their list for 2016 that is equally absurd:
    - Amazon - Despite decent policies preventing sales of pornography, apparently you can get some sex toys or something from them.
    - American Library Association - Because they don't censor.
    - Amnesty International - Because they support decriminalizing prostitution.
    - Cosmopolitan Magazine - (This still exists?) It is a porn magazine?
    - Department of Justice - Doesn't enforce obscenity laws via storm troopers or something like that.
    - HBO - Actually in general, so not just Game of Thrones.
    - Snapchat - Because people could use it for bad things.
    - Verizon - Because they offer porn via pay-per-view.
    - YouTube - Because there is porn everywhere on it?

Overall, this is a joke of an organization. It used to be called "Morality in Media" but changed its name last year to make it sound less like the religious nuts that they are (they were founded by an interfaith group of clergy because some grade school kids were caught with some dirty magazines).

western people... they care more about people being raped on TV shows than the woman raped and forced into marriage in the shitty parts of the world

    Don't like it? Don't read/watch it.

Just because i play GTA doesn't mean i want to steal a car or beat someone up.

Also, OP doesn't seem to understand what "developed world" means.

Hmm, no. The Qur'an pretty explicitly mentions that the world is a spheroid. Not that that was a particularly unknown thing even in ancient times.

Feminism is just a paranoid conspiracy theory that fabricates things like "patriarchy" and "rape culture" the same way other conspiracy theorists invent "reptilian illuminati" and "zionist FEMA camps"

It's almost comical that sex-negative religious groups are starting to borrow feminist ideas to support their own regressive ideas

Another group of people who try to condemn something they don't even watch or know anything about.

Simply because touches on the subject of rape, doesn't mean it promotes it. If anything every time the show displays rape, its normally to instill a feeling of horror/disgust in the viewers.

But even if you were to buy into their idea that it promotes "rape culture", its hardly the most gruesome or barbaric thing on that show. I guess they have no problem with burning children alive or human mutilation/castration.
