But to those that like to having a knife is a given. There's a certain feeling of freedom that comes with stepping away from the relative safety of society from time to time and locking horns with mother nature.

Pretty standard kit for someone who has worked in kitchens for years. Actually, I think if I was building it from scratch it would only be about $250. I'm not one to buy super expensive knives.

Back on topic: I used to have a USMC Ka-bar under my car seat. It was for camping and fishing purposes, if it was ever found. It was really because I lived in a shitty neighborhood and my sword or baseball bat didn't fit.

It's not "eye for an eye". Most self defense incidents transpire in the course of a few seconds. There's no time to contemplate moral repercussions. The person being attacked is more or less operating on impulse.

Eye for an eye would be if someone killed your child you kill theirs.

Killing someone who is actively trying to kill you isn't even remotely in the same ball field as that.

I tend towards Spyderco over Gerber.

Spyderco makes good knives, my personal favorite. I have a cursed spyderco blade though. It "drinks" the blood of anyone that handles it (it is really sharp and serrated).
