Which is awesome. It means everyone can be a generalist in the things that are reasonably simple, while simultaneously being a specialist in something that's not.

The problem is there are a lot of people who never acquire specialist skills, or they do but those skills get rendered obsolete.

I have a toolbox with all the most common tools I might need to take care of things around the house.

I even have a chainsaw. Which is somewhat strange, since I live in a flat, downtown, with no provate garden or forest nearby. Don't ask, because I don't have an answer.

This is an almost fair point, every one should get a small 20 dollar tool kit as a housewarming gift from someone. SO their friends and fam dropped the ball. But its 20 bucks for one of those shitty kits from like harbor freight, hop in the car and go get one, you own a house now, you going to send out an internet blast every time you got a loose nail?

Hop up on the counter top! It's great exercise. I used to do it all the time back when I was short. Now that I'm tall, I don't have access to such simple agility exercises, and my body aches all the time.

I swear someday when I own my own house, I want to install countertops that are at least a foot higher than usual, just so I don't have to hurt my back so much chopping vegetables.

In the bathroom too, just so I don't always end up with water splashed all over my crotch every time I use the damned sink.

Apparently counter tops are not for climbing on, we have stools. Not that I particularly listen to that, because why the fuck would I use a stool when there's a counter right there.

    >.>

I want a job so I can move out.

You'd hate the counters and switches we have here though.. this house was made for kids or something, because they're low for *me* at 5'4".

It just really bothers me. In this day in age anyone with an ounce of gumption can get it fixed 9 time out of ten, yet they choose not to. Its not a cant, its a choice.
I tend to think that it should be an equal partnership sort of thing. I can do basic repairs in a pinch, hubs can do basic cooking, mending etc. maybe its becasue we lived together we had to take care of ourselves, I don't know, but you'd think people who may not have a partner (whether temporarily, or permanently by choice) - would learn how to take care of themselves without having to call someone for every little thing. help may not always be available, or at least not available right away.

that said.. I kinda like doing handy things myself :P its fun. and that also means that when we decide on a larger project - we can do it together

When I moved out of my house, my father bought me one of these:

With screwdrivers, wrenches, and a hammer. It's the box I still use, though now it's seriously overstuffed with tools. I need a bigger toolbox, but I have nowhere to keep it in this little apartment.

I don't watch the series, I read the books and cry because I'll die before the next one is out.

I don't, I really should get a screwdriver since disassembling a computer without one is a pain in the ass.. I do have a wrench and a bunch of hex keys for tightening the bolts in my gaming chair, desk etc.

  12. #152
Do you own a hammer and a screwdriver?
You could type "Are you living in the cave?" instead.

I paid my mechanic $20 to change the bulbs on my headlights.

But here is the thing, on the last generation Dodge Dakota the driver side bulb, to access it requires taking the battery out, taking the battery tray out, and then removing the plastic liner separating the engine bay from the headlight.

Best $20 I ever spent. Was already there getting an oil change anyhow. LOL

A whole lot of people don't have any tools whatsoever. And that is perfectly okay.
It's what keeps the economy going, since entire professions exist on that fact.

    Speaking of facts..
It's more often than not, how bloody amateurs causing more harm to themselves either physically or to their wallet, due to unskilled handling of tools, especially like hammers and screwdrivers.

More than a few of each, for different jobs...as well as misc other tools for other jobs.
I can not fathom not having them around ...I mean my Leatherman is awesome ...I would hate to have to hang shelves with it though.

what the actual fuck is that mess. everything is in the wrong place!

except the washer fluid, which is hilarious. don't touch that shit, apparently.

but it looks like it'd be easy to get to most things, so i'm still jealous.

(Although replacing the serpentine on my car was a royal pain in the ass, so maybe that makes up for it.)
Oh I know, all my previous vehicles were simple as well. Hell some were SO simple the back of the headlamp assembly was just right there in the open to change out the bulb. On the 05-09 Dakotas? Hell no...

The passenger side is easy, driver side, fuck that here is $20 hit that for me while you do my oil plz.

You guys think this is bad, should see the engine bay for modern cars like Audi's and BMW's. Its obvious the engineers did not have daily maintenance in mind.

Of course I own a hammer and a screwdriver.
