Holy crap that was a long day. Spent my entire day in school and working out then spent two hours at a concussion summit from 7:30 pm-9:30 pm. Got to talk to the physician of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners which was awesome."There cannot be true dispair without hope." - Bane

It was pretty cool. There were quite a few higher-ups in the Washington State medical community involved in the concussion summit, as well as the family and recipient of a near death concussion incident. That family was the same one that started the Zachary Lystedt Law, backed by many high profile organizations, including the NFL. That law exists in all 50 states.
"(3) A youth athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury in a practice or game shall be removed from competition at that time.
(4) A youth athlete who has been removed from play may not return to play until the athlete is evaluated by a licensed health care provider trained in the evaluation and management of concussion and receives written clearance to return to play from that health care provider. The health care provider may be a volunteer. A volunteer who authorizes a youth athlete to return to play is not liable for civil damages resulting from any act or omission in the rendering of such care, other than acts or omissions constituting gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct."
It was a wonderful experience to be able to listen to so many high profile medical professionals and have Zach talk about his heartbreaking injury.
Quite a few people attended the event and I was the only person to ask a question at the end. Even better was that the medical professionals loved my question (especially Dr.Herring, the Seahawks/Mariners physician) and I got to chat with them a bit after the event. I asked Dr. Herring if I could shadow him at the VMAC (Seahawks facility) but unfortunately HIPPA laws don't allow that until I am actually in medical school
