    Example Idea: Chimaera
    Role: Tank

    Story: A talon researcher who made herself into a monster during biological research, she now hunts down overwatch agents and omnics whom she blames for the loss of her family during the Omnic crisis.


    Shift: Lunge at an enemy and pin them.

    Rend: Deal damage to an enemy and slow them

    Passive: Rapid healing when out of combat

    Ultimate: Roar increases movement speed and damage done by all enemies

    Story: Stemming from a sister project related to the exploration of space Winston originated from, this small chimpanzee escaped a lab after an explosion severely damaged the lab she was being held in. Unfortunately, she did not escape the burning lab unscathed. Her left side was severely burnt, and her she needed immediate assistance if she had any hopes of surviving. She was found unconscious a few miles from the lab by a scientist, who wanted to use the chimp for his own research. He amputated her damaged arm, and replaced it with the mechanical frame that combined the shape of an arm with the barrel of a gun. She was also fitted with a shackles on her neck, wrist, and ankles that were bolted to her skeleton and able to shock her in case she would get too unruly. She was woken to agonizing pains multiple times during the procedures, as the cruel scientist wanted to ensure she hadn't passed away. She survived the process, but was forced to follow the orders of her new master.

    After many months, the scientist grew bored and moved on to the next project. The chimpanzee was auctioned off on the black market, and was shipped off to a new owner. Fortunately, she avoided a life of servitude because the plane she arrived on was targeted by Junkrat and Roadhog, who set the Chimp free on the condition she would work with them.

    It was like a match made in heaven, as Junkrat's affinity for explosives and mayhem went well what the chimp had grown to both fear and admire - fire. Junkrat assisted her in modifying her mechanical arm to something more suitable for their heists. Eventually they developed a kinship and the chimpanzee adopted a name from one of the largest cities of the land her new cohorts had come from. She would be called Sydney.

    Basic idea: A close to mid-range damage dealing specialist that introduces a trade off between straight damage and damage over time.

    Left Click: A flamethrower that scorches everything that comes into contact with it, dealing damage for every second someone is exposed to the flame. After 21 seconds, additional damage of time is added to the target, even if no longer engaged in combat. (think Mei, but fire instead of ice, and a small DoT instead of the stun)

    Right Click: A fireball of lead is propelled towards the target at a fast pace. Deals moderate to strong damage at medium range, leaving a small DoT of lingering damage.

    Ability 1: Rocket boots quickly propel the character in any direction. Since Sydney specializes in close-ish quarters, she needs the mobility to get in. Has 2 charges on a fairly short cooldown, and can be used in any direction (including vertical movements).

    Ability 2: Character tosses out a proximity mine that arms itself after 2 seconds. Detonates when enemy unit gets within blast radius, and keeping with the theme, leaves a fiery DoT on effected targets.

    Ultimate: Pull out the big guns - the character fires 5-10 heat-seeking missiles (each dealing about 150 damage) that greatly damage your opponents. This move will greatly punish defenders that can't/don't seek cover, but can be avoided by those quick on their feet.

    Disclaimer: It's probably a really terrible idea, and I'm not even sure that a DoT mechanic in a game this fast paced is worth having, but it was a lot of fun thinking of a bad ass monkey with a vengeance that rocks out a flamethrower, and appears as the first left-handed shooter in the game.

    A female support character that can increase and decrease in size, heal, swap positions with teammates, steal enemy ammo and restore friendly ammo. I don't have a name or a background yet. I wish I was an artist so I could really make ideas come alive.

    Shift: Decrease in size and fly towards a teammate, latching onto their back and healing them for as long as you stay. Able to shoot over teammate's shoulder and behind them. 3rd person view while on back.

    E: Swap positions with a teammate and increase in size, giving you armor. Lasts 5 seconds. 15 second cooldown.

    Ultimate: Increase size of an enemy for 4 seconds, bringing their clip size to 1 and making them unable to attack for 1.5 seconds. Stores all stolen ammo. I would say this ultimate should charge relatively fast, like Mercy's.

    Main weapon

    Left click: Shots do no damage but remove 1 (or a %?) round from enemy clips. Stores X number of rounds.

    Right click: Shoot teammates (channeled?) and give them stored rounds, increasing their clip size. Extra rounds do 20% more damage.

    Secondary weapon


    2 mines that create an invisible tripwire between them, alerting your team of the enemy's presence and draining 5% of the enemy's ultimate. 20 second cooldown once triggered.

    Biography : Afshin grew up on the southern shores of the Caspian sea, before the Omnic Crisis he was a military researcher working on new technology to replace the nearly-depleted fossil fuels. His work resulted in G-fuel : a gel-like substance that burns relentlessly when exposed to the oxygen in earth's atmosphere. Before the final work could be completed however the Omnic Crisis took the earth by surprise. the project was cancelled due to low funding and the lab was given to the Overwatch. Afshin began working with Overwatch with an utter bitterness but, as weeks passed on, he became more interested in Overwatch's core beliefs and what they stood for. Mage was the nickname given to him by his fellow researchers due to his tendency to keep a well-groomed long beard and due to the fires that broke out in his lab as a result of G-fuel mishandling. When the Overwatch was disbanded Afshin was invited by a small group of ex-overwatch members to join The Remnants : a group that is trying to reform Overwatch without the mistakes that eventually destroyed the first one. He relocated to a small secret facility in the Caspian Sea which is a floating Overwatch headquarters (which is an ekranoplan). Due to lack of manpower Afshin chose to become a field operator as well as a researcher, with Mage becoming his code name. Equipped with a gear which uses G-fuel, he has made sure his previous research would serve him well in the field.

    Description: Mage is a middle-age man sporting a classy mustache and a long groomed beard. He is equipped with a pair of Phoenix-Gauntlets. Using these gauntlets Mage can shoot fireballs (compressed G-fuel in shape of pellets) and create walls of flame in an instant (G-fuel sprayed in the air). Mage wears special fire-proof outfit, including a navy overcoat which shields him from any accidental fire damage inflicted to him by the Phoenix Gauntlets. He is also equipped with a pair of Thruster-boots, Mage uses these boots to make long jumps. in order to safely land and avoid breaking any bones the mage uses a special exoskeleton suit that reduces the landing impact. Mage powers his equipment via a small high-tech battery installed on the back of his exoskeleton suit. the exoskeleton is not a bulky power armor, it only provides him with boosted hydrolics capability.

    - Phoenix Gauntlets fire G-Fuel pellets, it was previously mentioned that G-fuel is a highly flammable substance that starts to burn quickly upon contacting the oxygen in the air. giving an impression that the mage is shooting "fireballs" from his hands.

    - G-fuel is also used in Mage's boots, it can create enough energy to propel him to the air by burning the special gel in small combustion engines located below the boots.

    Attacks & Abilities:

    Fireball (Mouse Left Click) - shoots a single fireball projectile at the targeted area with the left hand. does not auto-lock on enemies. can be used midair.

    Fireball (Mouse Right Click) - shoots a single fireball projectile at the targeted area with the right hand. does not auto-lock on enemies. can be used midair.

    Flashfire (Mouse Left Hold) - Charges up and unleashes a strong firewall with the left hand, Firewall hits targets infront of the mage for strong damage but it has a short range. does not pass through walls. can be used midair.

    Flashfire (Mouse Right Hold) - Charges up and unleashes a strong firewall with the right hand, Firewall hits targets infront of the mage for strong damage but it has a short range. does not pass through walls. can be used midair.

    NOTE : two Flashfires can be charged at once by holding both mouse buttons, they can separately be used when player releases the related mouse button.

    Blazing Leap (shift) - Jumps high (about 6 meters) and then falls on the ground. pressing space while mid-air allows you to hover instead of falling.

    Blazing Leap (Shift while midair) - uses the thrusters to thrust forward and land on targeted location with high speed, creating a scorched earth upon impact which damages enemies located in the impact zone.

    Phoenix Orb [E] - special attack, throws a special Sphere-shaped Drone at the targeted location. Phoenix Orb activates 2 seconds after hitting and attaching itself to the targeted area. once Activated the Orb quickly flies up & slams itself into the nearest enemy, upon impact the Orb sprays a small amount of G-fuel towards the target, resulting in a small explosion on it's surface... the explosion mortally wounds the target, afterwards the Orb will, without a small delay, bounce off and slam into the next enemy within visual range, repeating the same pattern... the Orb hits up to 6 enemies in succession before losing power. if the enemy is covered behind an obstacle the orb hits the obstacle instead and seeks another enemy. (best way to counter the orb is to take cover quickly after spotting it.

    Playstyle:

    - Fireball is the standard attack, cooldown speed is slow. you have to time your mouse clicks so that the fireballs can cover eachother's delays. (left click, right click, left click, right click... )

    - Flashfire is good to clear a room of enemies especially if both mouse buttons are held. which causes Firewall when the buttons are unleashed.

    - Flashfire and Fireball can be used separately, Mage can cast Fireball with left click while holding right button to charge a flashfire. so that he can use to finish off enemies when they get too close.

    - Shift can be used to quickly get out of sticky situations OR make a fiery entry into a situation, or both.

    - Phoenix Orb can be used to break enemies out of entrenched positions. and to hit enemies who are not using cover. best used in big rooms.

    Mage is great at making a scene : he comes in, wreaks havoc, and then escapes before anyone can react. but once spotted he needs to quickly move out because he has a low healthpool and has zero defense capabilities. He also has weak long-range abilities meaning that in open maps he needs to take cover or he gets sniped out pretty easy. but Mage causes great damage at medium to short range, and most of his abilities are AoE, so he's great at clearing an area full of unsuspecting enemies.

    Not sure about Gameplay, but in terms of lore I'd quite like to see a spin on the more typical superhero character. Perhaps a teenager or young adult who was inspired by OW as a child, who then takes it upon themselves to fight crime in a cape and domino mask like the superheroes as old, once OW is disbanded. I came up with an idea for a girl who builds her own electricity fling gauntlets. Kind of like how Spiderman designs his own webslingers.

    A sniper. Now I know what you're thinking, we already have Widowmaker, Hanzo, etc. But get this: He's a sniper, who also has an SMG. I know what you're thinking, Widowmaker already has one. But get this:
    2 guns, 1 is a sniper. Second is an smg.
    First ability, throw a jar on someone that makes them take increased damage.
    Ultimate, he pulls out a long knife, a machete if you will. He runs around and bashes people with it.

    We'll call him, Marksman.

    I've had two ideas, but I don't know if they'd fit the same character, so I'll just leave them here and let others incorporate them to their characters if they want:

    - A hero who spawns with no weapons and can only melee. He can pick up weapons from other dead heroes, from either team. No infinite ammo, each different weapon would have a balanced amount of bullets. Only main fire and secondary fire available, no special abilities from other heroes. This hero wouldn't replace any other completely, but would be a quicker response than changing to the appropiate hero for the situation, as long as he found the right weapon.

    - I've noticed there are many interiors with "thin walls". What if a hero could see through these and had an ability that allowed him to walk through them? Only walls in front of him and only if there's a room behind them, obviously. This hero would be the perfect ambusher, he would not only be more aware of his surroundings, but also take advantage of the maps' layouts in ways no other hero can.

    thanks though I admit the design was back when I didn't have a clear idea on how the game was going to feel like. now that I played the beta I can spot some errors in the design but I didn't want to do any big changes to the design.

    The following characters are based on the work of fanfiction I'm currently writing titled "Overwatch: The Gentleman Thief" (http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...entleman-Thief)

    Fernando Aberquero (the Laughing Fox, as he wears a mask that depicts a laughing fox) is the main character while One is an omnic who despises humans (and omnics who side with them) and seeks to destroy them (he's the main antagonist in this work of fanfiction). Fernando enters a coma after One almost kills him. When he wakes up he also realises that his right arm is missing (which will then be replaced by a robotic arm). Fernando joins Overwatch after the organisation saves him from Talon while still in hospital.

    To give you a better idea, here's the blurb:
    When Fernando Aberquero isn't strolling through the streets of Granada and enjoying the Spanish way of life he becomes the Laughing Fox, a thief known for stealing from those who have lost their manners. One job will make him realise that, perhaps, he wasn't meant to be just a simple thief.

    I've also written a few dialogue lines that could be in the game.

    Age: 26-27 at the beginning of the story. 31-32 after waking up from coma. (haven't decided this yet)
    Other: He has an electric truncheon that he calls Siesta and wears a mask that depicts a laughing fox.

    As he is a thief, I thought it would be appropriate (and fun) to have him steal weapons (and possibly abilities) from the enemy team. Thus, the in-game character revolves around that concept (I just noticed it is somewhat similar to what Soulwind proposed, as far as the whole weapon thing is concerned). The only problem is how stealing an ability would work (random? recent use?) but I think they could make it work. If stealing enemy abilities is too complicated the ability could be replaced by something else.

    - Abilities

    Steal Weapon: Steal a weapon from an enemy. This weapon has limited ammo. - Dialogue Line: "Let me borrow that."
    Steal Ability: Steal an ability from an enemy. This ability has limited use. - Dialogue Line: "Eh?"
    Steal Ultimate (Ultimate Ability): One use only. - Dialogue Line: "Magnífico."
    Siesta: Stun an enemy in melee range. - Dialogue Line: "I think you need a Siesta!"
    A Thief's Guile (Passive): Movement speed increased. Muffled footsteps.
    Flying Hand/Fist (Fernando has a robotic arm with a detachable hand): Deals damage. Fernando can activate Steal Weapon or Steal Ability after his hand hits an enemy, allowing him to steal from afar. - Dialogue Line: "Need a hand?"

    Life: 200 Health.


    Notes:


    - I think the stealing concept fits the character (he's a thief in the story, after all). I just hope that it is balanced and, most importantly, that something like this can be implemented.
    - The Flying Hand/Fist thing might seem out of place but combined with the stealing mechanic it could actually be fun to use. The character will be able to do this in the story so I thought I had to add it somehow. In the story I also plan on allowing him to move it from afar(or, at least, that's the plan. I've only written two chapters so far.), like the hand in the Addams Family, but that in the game would be way too much.
    - In the story the character also has in one chapter an EMP device to disable electronics but I thought I'd give One an ability to disrupt shields and barriers.
    - Ideas are welcome, as long as they fit the character. As I said earlier, I've only written two chapters so far but I really wanted to try to come up with the in-game version of the character and share it here.
    - What would his role be? Offence? Support?

    Abilities:

    Arm Cannon (deals damage based on how long the player charges it): Deals damage to enemies in a line.
    Grab: Grab enemy target. Grabbed targets can be either pinned to the ground (right-click) or thrown away (left-click)
    Leap: Leap in the direction you're moving.
    Disrupt: Disable shields and barriers for a short amount of time.
    Annihilation (Ultimate): Your Arm Cannon charges itself with overwhelming power and then fires, dealing massive damage to all enemies in front of you and knocking them back. Cannot move while using this ability. - Dialogue Line: "I am One."

    Life: 300 Armour.


    Notes:


    - I think Disrupt would be an interesting ability but I'm worried it might be a bit unbalanced.
    - I think Grab is an interesting ability. As far as visuals are concerned, One could fire his cannon when throwing enemies away. He could also toss them with his arm but perhaps it would be cooler with his cannon. Either option is fine.
    - Not 100% sure about 300 Armour. I think it would be balanced, considering that One doesn't have any proper defensive mechanism.
    - Suggestions are welcome, as long as they fit the character.
    - Should One have a passive ability of some sort?
    - In the story Fernando tosses an EMP device to stop One, but the omnic destroys it with a laser. I wanted to add an ability that destroys ranged projectiles for 3 seconds but then I thought that it would end up being too similar to Genji's deflecting ability or D.Va's defense matrix.


    - Additional Dialogue Lines

    "War...war never ends."
    "Humans are a plague that must be eradicated."

    Bio: Mercenary vet from the Omnic crisis. brought into Overwatch under Gabriel Reyes shortly before Overwatch's collapse. during which he underwent the same treatments Genji endured but with an emphasis on making him a walking can of indestructible rage. has since operated for various private and paramilitary organizations.
    Main weapon: heavy machine gun (Steel Shredder), no alt fire, just a huge clip that takes extra long to reload, also requires Big Don to slow his movement speed to fire.
    abilities: (smoke screen), launch several smoke grenades. leaving an area obstructed to enemy view.
    (regenerate armor) advanced tech allows Big Don to regain all lost armor.
    Passive: (massive), Big Don is immune to all knock backs, snares, and other lose of character control effects baring Zarya's Gravaton surge.
    Ult: (feeding frenzy), Big Don launches several "blood lust" grenades, sending himself and allies into a rage.

It's kinda cool to see Blizzard artists choose to spend time on working on stuff such as these. seems like a cool concept though it might be a little out-of-character for overwatch. but hey, we have a sci-fi angel jumping around healing people and a brazilian DJ skating on walls, healing people with music and using a subsonic pistol so meh.

    name : M.R.K.Y (Military Rapid Killing Instrument)

    health : 100, all of it is regenerative shield.

    description : M.R.K.Y is a small omnic resembling a murloc (though in this universe he is just an omnic that looks like a human-frog hybrid) he can climb walls and stick to them, in addition of that he can also move around ceiling and stay there. his has little health but what makes this hero very dangerous is that he can move around the map and plant a mini-factory that rebuilds another M.R.K.Y unit should the current one die. which gives him good map presence and forces the enemy team to pick a tracer or some other hero to find his nest and destroy it.

    sprays poison that covers the targeted area, enemies that move on the area will have their vision blurred for as long as they are in the affected area.

    right click (charged) : charges an emp blast and causes an instant explosion in the targeted area, if the explosion affects an enemy it will disable their left click attack for 2 seconds in addition of dealing damage.

    shift : shoots himself for a large distance and lands on the targeted area, if the targeted area is a wall or a ceiling M.R.K.Y will latch onto it. if M.R.K.Y hits an enemy it will latch onto the enemy instead, which deals gradual damage in addition of slowing their movement for 40%. after 4 seconds M.R.K.Y will jump away.

    space : in addition of jumping, it is used to latch onto and move around walls.

    E : plants a nest on a desired location, M.R.K.Y can use this nest by pressing E while he is dead, once activated the nest will create another M.R.K.Y unit in the next 2 seconds. it can be activated every 10 seconds. this small factory can be built on walls and on ceilings too.

    Q : explodes into 6 small omnic robots and will quickly search for enemies, once they reach enemies they will latch onto them and explode. dealing 100 damage each to their primary target and 10 splash damage to nearby enemies. so if the enemy is clustered up they will receive 100+30 or more damage each. these mini omnics can be destroyed though. the upside is that the explosion happens instantly and while it will only deal a small amount of damage in the inital explosion area (where M.R.K.Y suicides) it almost happens instantly.


    Playstyle: Murky is a harrasser/ganker that excels at constantly harrasing backlines or gank solo enemies by luring them into closed quarters where he can use his poison + emp and shift to take care of a lonely enemy that wanders into his territory. combined with other heroes he can be quite a pain to deal with as he can blur an enemy's vision, giving your teammates the advantage to take him out, he can also latch onto enemy heroes and disable them, again giving the friendly teammates the advantage to finish them off. his ult is a way to clear out an area and divert the attention of the enemy team, while punishing clustered up teams. his emp blast can disable bastions and torbjorn turrets for a little time, giving your team an opportunity to rush in and take care of their clustered up backline.
