We've all heard the arguments around the "free the nipple" campaign. It argues that women should have equal rights to men and this includes the right to take their shirts off if they so please.

Instagram is known as one of the main internet censors stopping women from going topless freely. Governments also do not treat males and females the same in this regard. Even breastfeeding has been censored or frowned upon in many places.

A growing number of female celebrities are rebelling and going topless as they believe that women should have control over their own bodies.

This hasn't been my experience. Though all the nudists I know are part of a weird yoga club and in really good shape so I may not have a very representative sampling. I know TV has them always being ugly and/or old, but that's TV.

Breasts or boobs are considered erotic and it generates sexual excitement among the vast majority of males no matter what the women think. If they're willing to go topless then males all over the world will have strong boners in public places which is not really appropriate.

Because they need to reach the "I don't give a fuck anymore" age. Shyness gone, body pressure gone, beauty gone. Also, most of the people you will ever see nude are "young" porn stars on the internet, so the bar for beauty a lot higher than your average nude person.

Turns out MOST states have local ordinance laws that allow women to be topless. (Not state-wide, mind you)

So I think the real question should be more about why should we care? If women wanna go topless, let them. If people want to gawk, stare, and otherwise ogle them, that's the price you pay for equality. You get the bad with the good. Guys go topless and people do the same thing. What matters is whether or not you care.

If you care about what other people think, then you'd probably be better off not going topless. If you're too self conscious to accept that people will see you topless and MIGHT become aroused in the privacy of their own skulls, then you're the one with the problem.

If you don't care, you don't care.

This whole idea that we should somehow go through our day to day lives living on eggshells about what other people think or feel is ridiculous. Why should we cater to someone else's emotional insecurities? If you can't handle the sight of someone's exposed breasts, that's not their problem. It's your fucking problem. Whether you're disgusted or aroused, it is up to you and you alone to control your behavior around other people. If you can't do that, I'm sure as fuck not going to make your life easier at the expense of my own personal autonomy.

There's a weird double standard where men can walk around, and women can't, and I don't know why that is. This has happened for generations and it honestly seems like a pointless endeavour when I'm sure there're more pressing issues for women to tackle than wanting to be topless.

More on topic, why do we need to be topless? We wear clothes to protect our flesh from brushing against things that might give us minor scratches and bruises, and give us the much-needed warmth our bodies need. All it really tells me is that the person if confident enough to take it off if they think the heat is sweltering, and maybe they've got a body they want to show off for attention.
