Because he left out a couple of teams; Turkey and Czech Republic. Still even if you add those, it is a disgrace. Reasons for not qualifying have already been discussed. Robben being injured was also a big blow, but you can't possibly just blame it on that. If your whole team relies on one player you have nothing to do in the Euro anyway.

Wouldn't be a major soccer tournament without hooliganism...

I've been to Marseille watching the UEFA Cup. (now Europa League)

My friends and I bought a cheap football whilst we were there to have a kickabout to pass the time in the afternoon. A French news team turned up and asked if we could play dirtier whilst they filmed us. Obviously for a news report on troublemaking English lads - look at these scum, even their kickabouts are violent....that sort of thing. (no idea if they ever used the footage or not. back then we didn't really have a way to get French local news reports easily without actually watching it on French TV)

We were then shifted from steel cage to steel cage on the way in to the stadium.

Yes, there are England fans that are genuine dicks on the road, but news teams and often local police are DYING for them to be dicks. They cannot wait for it.

As an aside - all of the cafes and pubs we went in everyone was really welcoming. Especially in the Algerian place we went for lunch.

I've heard plenty of horror stories regarding the police in Marseille when Newcastle were over there for the UEFA Cup.

I say, they should quit being lazy and actually do something to make them worth their salt. 52 matches in a 3 year window is easily doable.

    lol

    are you serious?

I think he forgot that each team plays two matches against each opponent.

He also forgot that there are national leagues, european club football and there's only a 2 year qualification window, because there are also world cup qualifiers.
Needless to say that players are already overplayed and do too many matches a year.

This idea must come from someone who is completely new to football...
