There's a cast difference between a dictatorship and desiring a public that is capable of making informed choices, instead of voting for reality stars to be president, or leaving the EU because "those people". Emotion based voting is almost certainly as dangerous as any singular authoritarian outburst, both can lead to rather tragic consequences. Before the migrant crisis it is entirely unlikely that such a vote would have been possible, what exactly is it that you think caused the sea change? Are truly certain that it's a good thing? Abandoning reason isn't typically a great course of action.
