Why is male rape so rife in US prisons?

I watched a documentary the other day about US prisons and one of the alleged statistics were how male rape is more common in US prisons than European prisons and I am curious why... Obviously number of prisoners are higher in US than Europe but the statistics were in %

Do you have some statistics to actually back this up?

Rape is treated pretty seriously in prison today, it's not at all like it was in the 80's, 90's. If you are gay, transgender, HIV positive, a rapist, child molester, or have any type of special security classification you are put into a 23 hour lock down pod and you eat in your cell. Shower times are designated outside of your rec time.

Our prisons are horribly managed, simply put. It's an issue everyone knows and no one cares enough about to fix. Once you go to jail here you're basically a second class citizen.

I've always wondered why prisons didn't provide special facilities where inmates could go, view porn and masterbate in,privacy. It's kinda I humane to deny inmates sexual release.

Nah the dangerous US prisoners, they smell weakness fast and capitalize. Like the fucking jungle lol. They'd intimidate the guards into bringing in contraband, be raping the european inmates, pretty much running the show.
