How bad of a rip-off is Winston of Beast from X-men?

I'm gonna do a poll here. Clearly the Overwatch characters each sort of embody a typical stereotype of some sort, and I'm well aware of Blizzard's level of copying certain themes from other properties... but this one just bugs me a bit more than usual.

Physically nothing at all except glasses. IIRC (been awhile since I was super into comics), not really much fightingwise either.

Personality wise they are pretty similar but the whole "animal looking thing is actually a smart scientist" is not an uncommon superhero trope in general.

Frankly, I don't think it is. It reminds me more of David Brin's Uplift, but it might be two people having similar ideas on their own, just one decades after another. But "Kelsey Slammer" is too funny.

IMO allot of the overwatch crew have too many similarities with x-men in general. Many of them seem to be blatant ripoffs.

Even if this is a ripoff, which I don't think it is, the people who created X-Men have inspired many people around the world. When people learn and create things they use past experiences to try to make different twists on things. The same thing goes for calling this game a TF2 ripoff. TF2 set a standard for games like this. I don't think people should be attaching negative connotations to this kind of thing.

X-Men are awesome. TF2 is awesome. Overwatch is fun to play if it's your thing. I don't think people should view this as a bad thing. It's just something "new" to try.

Beast is a mutant human who was a scientist. Winston is an ape who was upgraded by a human to human level intellect.
Beast is blue. Winston is grey/black
Beast has round glasses. Winston has square glasses
Beast is from Earth. Winston is from the Moon.

I agree.

Soldier 76 and his visor remind me of Cyclops, at least visually speaking. There are a few other similarities but the Beast/Winston one is a little too close for comfort imo.

Winston is sort of like a blended combo of Caesar from Planet of the Apes + Beast + Hulk. I suppose in some ways that makes him unique, which is why I personally didn't rate it a 10/10 on my poll.
