Austrialia has an absolutely terrible record on aboriginals. Hardly something to boast about.

I am not boasting but rather stating that I feel the Australian system is better than the one Canada is using.

Not to mention Canada is not exactly a shining star with it's own record on indigenous peoples either. In fact Australia and Canada have pretty comparable records in this area. Which is why I find it surprising that a country like Canada can rank #1 on a progress index.

When I was in Helsinki last week I could barely hear Finnish there at all. Helsinki is not a good example if you want to make a case about there not being a lot of foreigners in Finland.

What about this "black and not muslim"? You do realize that being a muslim means you are a follower of islam, it has nothing to do with race. You can be black AND muslim - which is more often than not the case here. Very few black christians around here.

Most black people in Finland are Somalians or from Western Africa. Pretty much all of them muslims.

EDIT: Googled a bit. Apparently 45% of all Africans are muslims, the data is from 2002. I assume it is even higher today.

I am British, leave in France now. France has a much better (as in way better) healthcare than us.

Either you have the means: your health insurance that is compulsory for all companies to provide will pay for you. Doctors, specialists, eyes, dentists etc, all taken care off. Kids need expensive dental care to align teeth: free. etc etc. Want to see a specialist? you take an appointment an can be seen same day. Insurance + state reimburse everything.

You dont have the means: states pays for you.

Wants to see your GP: same day, usually within the hour.

Kid wakes up at night sick: you can call to have a doctor at your place within few hours.

Incidentally, I have relatives in Canada, and Canada has always been (at least certain parts of it) the one country that I relate with the most.

Of course, the people are a bit different; Finns are polite as well, but in a very introverted and quiet way. We don't have a word for "please" in the Finnish language. We have ways of translating "please", but there's no actual, correct word for it. We can come off as very cold and even rude, but only because we don't have that irrelevant outward fluff so many other peoples and cultures have. Canadians on the other hand, as far as I know, are very polite, and in a very extroverted way.

Still, if I had to choose a country that reminds me of Finland the most, it would most likely be Canada.

I have a serious questions to their methodology. Neither Canada nor Finland are famous for everything. One can argue that one man's social "progress" is other man's degradation.

My country is so socially progressive it doesn't even care.

Unlike certain other northern countries whose constant, obsessive need for validation makes them seem more than a little insecure.

It's funny, because this is absolutely true. I'm from Denmark, and I always see politicians try to make their personal desires seem like a national interest (office in Brussels etc). They're trying hard to make themselves look good to everyone else, but their people are starting to loathe them even more because all their decisions are aimed towards making everyone BUT their people get a better future.
