Stupid question abour Artefact Weapons

So I have purposely not been reading a lot about stuff because I want the weapons and quests to be fresh when I do them. I do have a simple question about them: how far into Legion proper do you get before you get the quest to get the weapon? Is it pretty much the opening quest or do you have to find some random drop to trigger it?

It's the first quest you get, it is what leads you to the Legion zones.

Just Gray/white vendor trash, Relics are the "weapon" drops this Xpac.

I have been checking the dungeon journal loot list a lot lately (Passing time while waiting for pamphlet-cooldowns to pass :P ), and i don't recall seeing weapons in the loot tables for world bosses, 5-mans or raids, they're replaced by artifact relics...

no. you get something called relics in place of those weapon drops. relics are infused with your artifact to increase its ilvl and base power. relics can also add extra points to some of the skills in the artifact tree.

so wherever you would expect a weapon to drop today, once legion starts, you have a chance to see a relic from that same activity.

Another question, from what I understand you get a weapon for one spec. And if you decide you want to play another spec, you have to start over with the whole upgrading grind with a new one. Is that right?

Correct. But you'd have a slight to major upgrade in power gain due to artifact research.
