But the difference is that you can't get them in boxes, you can get the summer skins in boxes.
At this point we're arguing over whose interpretation is right and wrong, and you're losing, based on the fact that Blizzard agreed with pretty much everyone in the thread and changed it.
Oh yeah, because they're so important, and the game would be totally different without them.
The game wouldn't change a single bit without player icons, except there'd be a lot less junk in the boxes (So technically it'd get better?). The game would change an awful lot if you removed any of the other things.
This whole "but they're in boxes" stuff is completely off-base; it's something you folks have completely invented, and it isn't even accurate. As noted, player icons aren't available for currency.
Your own arguments aren't consistent;
1> They're in loot boxes, so they should be available for currency, unlike player icons, which have always been in loot boxes and are not.
2> They're skins that people want, so they should be available for currency, unlike Origins Edition and pre-order skins, which are not.
These aren't arguments. They're you folks making up rules and complaining that Blizzard isn't following your made-up rules.
It doesn't say what you apparently think it does. As we've gone over, multiple times in this thread.
Err, no, you can see everyone's icons when the match starts in Competitive; http://8gmwp015fo-flywheel.netdna-ss...oad-screen.png
And regardless, it doesn't matter. They're in loot boxes, they're cosmetic items, they're not available for currency.
You keep making up new exceptions to the rules you're trying to hold Blizzard to, and if you have to keep making up new exceptions to explain how things actually work, maybe it's time to accept that your base rule is just not right. There is no requirement or expectation that Blizzard must make all skins available for in-game currency.

The game also wouldn't change at all without skins.
Because, again, they're cosmetic.
They changed the wording to be more clear. That's it.
Fact is; there have always been skins that have been not been made available for currency. There have always been cosmetic rewards in loot boxes not available for currency.
There was no change in policy. Just a clarification because of folks like you who were willfully trying to misinterpret their prior wording to claim they had "lied", when the simple reality is that you just misunderstood.
And now you're back to literally making stuff up and pretending it describes Blizzard's policies.
And some of us DO want player icons, thankyouverymuch. And voice lines, for that matter. I don't see any of that as "filler", and it's a bit silly to argue as such, because they could've just said there were three items per loot box and not included icons, and saved themselves the dev time, if it was "just filler".
