Enhancement Flametongue Question

I apologize if this has been answered before, tried to find an answer but came up short.

My question is, what is the purpose of maintaining Flametongue buff? Is it just because its better than nothing or is there a specific reason? Does it interact with some other ability? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am curious. Thank you in advance for any helpful response.

For all intensive purposes its just a dot. It does damage try to keep its up time at 100%.
