Ultimately I think that's what has to happen. However, Blizzard is probably hugely frightened of breaking the complex addons (TSM in particular) that make the AH and economy actually work.

EVE's market system gives players the information they need in order to do intelligent trading (graphs and ALL KINDS OF SHIT) without auction addons. Or, in the EVE system, you can just post your junk and sell it. Either way the EVE way is the right way.

Plus, the EVE way would work if used region-wide, which is where the WoW AH should be headed too.

The current AH needs to be shot in the head and replaced with something that's not completely embarrassing. The mailbox too.
