Russian hackers accidentally post two different versions of same stolen docs.

    http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016...-Steal-Editing

Often, in war, mistakes are made. Sometimes, in Russia’s information war against the West, mistakes are made and then published for all the world to see.

That seems to be what happened when two supposedly independent hacking groups, believed by security experts to have ties to the Kremlin, posted the same documents stolen from a philanthropy run by George Soros. But the hack included a twist: Some of the documents taken by one group were altered in a bid to try and link Soros to Russian anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny, revealing how hackers likely working for Moscow are editing documents to smear their victims.

The metadata show that the Russian operators apparently edited some documents, and in some cases created new documents after the intruders were already expunged from the DNC network on June 11. A file called donors.xls, for instance, was created more than a day after the story came out, on June 15, most likely by copy-pasting an existing list into a clean document.

Although so far the actual content of the leaked documents appears not to have been tampered with, manipulation would fit an established pattern of operational behaviour in other contexts, such as troll farms or planting fake media stories. Subtle (or not so subtle) manipulation of content may be in the interest of the adversary in the future. Documents that were leaked by or through an intelligence operation should be handled with great care, and journalists should not simply treat them as reliable sources.

Good ploy to discredit the information.

Now people will be able to use this as cover for everything.

It may not be a conspicacy in this case. But I can see moving forward how every hack-released bit of data is going to be met with "edited docs lol"

The American liberal left already had an issue with denying facts and information when concerning their party. This is just another convenient excuse added to the top.

Meh, maybe they have issues denying "facts" because the American conservative right loves finding conspiracies everywhere.
Ever read a story called "The Boy Who cried Wolf"? Or about a condition called paranoia?

Who told you I was paranoid!?
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

I hope the implication here isn't that we should uncritically trust anything that casts aspersions on duh ebil libruls. Anything coming out of another country with negative political implications should be treated as suspect, regardless of who it's targeting...

    I didn't say conspiracy.

I just said this will be the new excuse.

Hell, its not like the deniers weren't already dismissing all of the leaks that highlight "their sides" corruption/illegal acts/stupidity/etc.

That's especially funny considering that Kaspersky is also linked to espionage with their software. They aren't a no-name company, they are closely aligned with the Russian government.

And the implication was it just becomes another excuse for the DNC and its followers to hand wave any negative information concerning their political party.

Both parties and their followers ignore anything that is uncomfortable. Cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias are very real. Democrats do not hold a monopoly on it, Trump's supporters are quite ignorant in their own right.

All of this is just a distraction by the world's elite to hide you the truth the earth is flat.

It's amazing people don't automatically trust Russian hackers to be honest with the data they release.

The American alt right - looking for allies among our enemies to make enemies out of our fellow countrymen.

Can't wait for these guys to fade back into obscurity once Trump loses.
2014 Gamergate: "If you want games without hyper sexualized female characters and representation, then learn to code!"

Fade back into obscurity? Every time they lose, they double down. "We weren't conservative enough!"
