Honestly I thought it was a bit silly Velen got all pissy at us for killing his son. I mean dude, your son is literally evil and tried to murder all of your citizens.
I think it's mostly (a), but he's not going to do it alone.
The draenei have been content to run for 25,000 years, and once they got to Azeroth, they haven't done a lot. This event finally got Velen riled up to point of saying enough is enough, he's sick of running and wants to take the fight to Kil'jaeden to make him pay for all of this.
The Exodar, being an extra-dimensional ship, is a pretty good staging ground, and might end up being our hub for the assault on Argus (even better would be if he rejoined it with the rest of Tempest Keep first). The Army of the Light is already there, waiting for us to back them up. Velen is the first one to get things ready to join them.
The key there is that it was still his son. I don't think he was "mad" at us really. He's pissed at the Legion. He knew it had to happen, heck because of his vision he likely knew his efforts wouldn't stop anything...he just couldn't handle that moment where he had to watch his son die.
It's just another piece of Very lazy Writing
After the Protoss/Draenei were forced off their homeworld Aiur/Argus by the Zerg/burning legion they became Nomads, fleeing from world to world in escape of their invaders. Then later when they have had enough of being chased Niadra/Exodar Invasion, and decides to return back to their come planet with The Exodar/The Golden Armada
Seeing as Argus is the burning legions homeworld, there is no way in hell the Draenei alone is going to be able to even gain any foothold ontop of Argus alone, just like how the Golden armada failed in Legacy of the void. Then we just get Ouros/Xe'ra Illidan/kerrigan combo
Blizzard is basically at this point just copying the Starcraft Story and at this point it's just Lore Butchery
An'u belore delen'na
Difference is, a big portion of Velen and his followers fled. There wasn't(Until Blizzard decides so) a big battle at Argus, more of a big Eredar turning into Man'ari and them fleeing, no big war so there is a difference. There also wasn't a planet they stayed on that had inhabitants that wanted them killed(Draenor...no dark templar planet doesn't count since it's still Protoss).
There are Similiarities to be sure but not as literal as you made it.

Velen was running away from the Legion for millenia. Legion ultimately made it to every planet they ever landed on and destroyed it. Velen knew the chase won't end, and he was accepting such life, even if he knew it was rather pitiful and hopeless. At that moment though, realizing the life path of his son, truly realizing what he has lost, moments after seeing destruction of Naaru - the last hope (in his knowledge) of reading the message of Xe'ra - he just has enough. He doesn't want to live that way any longer. He is going home, with all might od draenei. He is going to kill Kil'jaeden, make revenge for his son, or die trying.
At least that's how I understood it.
You're assuming that the other Draenei would be against this, and that this is some sort of snap decision.
I don't think either is likely the case.
It's very likely that most Draenei do want to attack the Legion, do want to go back to Argus, to take back Argus, to free, perhaps, the Eredar. Velen was probably against that previously, because he thought that they'd essentially escaped the reach of the Legion, and would do better fighting them from a distance, on Azeroth.
He's probably discussed the idea of going back countless times, and rejected it.
But now it has been brought home to him that Azeroth isn't safe, the Exodar isn't safe, and it never will be until the Legion is stopped, and he seems to believe that involves assaulting Argus.
So I don't think this is "for his own personal satisfaction". I think he's catching up to a position many Draenei already hold, because of what happened.
Honestly, theres no point recovering Argus. The planet must be overun by demonic forces, it can never be cleansed.
The objective cant be returning to Argus, it has to be destroying the Legion at their "home". Altough, that includes killing Sargeras (no one knows how, hes way more powerfull than anything we know).
After (and a big IF) we kill Sargeras, we still have the Void Lords to deal with, and we must remember that even Sargeras fears the Void Lords.
Yea, we have some problems ahead.
"You were surrendering? Why? Because these invaders can break down a wall? You have got another wall... and it's made up of the people who call this place HOME. Any one of us would lay down our life to protect this land. This land, it belongs to us... It belongs to our ancestors... It belongs to our children. And we are not about to let that change."
How will we even get to Argus? The Legion needs a redonkulus amount of fuel to create portals from Argus since it's implied to be far away from Azeroth. A Mage just opening up a clickable portal seems dumbdumb. Does the Exodar just poof wherever in the cosmos it desires?
What's with Blizzard and trying so hard to make "emotional" stories when infact they are far from being anywhere near emotional?
Maybe it would have worked if we knew Velen had a son. The last emotional story Blizzard made was about the corrupted crusader in Icecrown.
"We're going home... after an expansion or two..."
