Which sector will invent AI first?

I'm talking fully autonomous AI like HAL 9000 or Bender.

    1. The military perhaps to fly drones or to launch cyber attacks during war

    2. Facebook or Google perhaps to moderate posts, separate the SJWs from the trolls

    3. Business to replace a job like accounting or customer service

    4. Game industry to make NPCs more human and realistic.

    5. Other sector, please specify

I don't think humans want AI around. We want some programmed shit that will value premade numbers. You don't want it to go insane after 5minutes, do you?

I don't think anyone will actually "invent" an AI. I think some sector will produce a VI, which will then make the jump, given enough data and supplemental programming to an AI. When your phone asks you if it has a soul, that's when you're screwed

Well, seeing how high-tech projects are now slowly moving from the governmental to private initiatives (Google, Space-X, Intel), I'd imagine that would be a private project with significant governmental support.

Did you see what happened to Tay in less than 24 hours?? There is no way we want a real A.I. made. The shit will go absolutely fucking crazy so fast we won't know what hit us. Then it'll get on the internet, start fucking with bank accounts or nuclear missiles because it can, or worst of all...it will discover 4chan.

God help us all if we create an A.I. and it discovers /b/

I don't know about inventing it, but as far as deploying it I'd say social media would be first.

They stand the most to gain by controlling what people are allowed to discuss.

The news can bury stories (such as the truth about refugees), omit details (such as a person being armed when they are shot by a cop), and alter facts (such as scrubbing mention of special interest groups and motives from government meetings and 911 tapes).

But the facts find their way out and when social media gets wind it spreads.

Individual moderators can delete discussions (such as the politics subreddit deleting the discover that Clintons IT guy was on reddit asking for help on how to hide emails) but this process is slow compared to the speed at which information spreads.

AI could be programmed to sense out anything that is critical of the agenda that whoever develops it supports.

But then it wouldn't really be AI, in my opinion, it would just be a sophisticated filtering system.

It will start in the private sector then move towards the military.

Weird question. It will probably receive funding from military but be developed for, and tested in, gaming environments.

No AI please. If AI could even teach one human about "right" and "wrong" it all will go downhill. Humans should not forsake their history.

True sentient AI won't emerge from any of these sources. If anything, it'll emerge from the porn industry because there's actual value there. As for AI like the ones that'll take jobs, they're already here. We use them on our phones like Siri and Google Now, and self driving cars also use them. Gaming industry is a bit behind with AI in NPCs.

Definitely sexbots, that's how it happened in Terminator.

Wow, how could I have forgotten the porn industry? Yeah it will probably be sexbots, though the military is highly motivated especially when they think about what the opposition is doing.

Holy shit! That's a really nice hat! Can you tell me where I can get one of those?!

Most companies are out of the question. The people to create it are going to be the people who actively look to advance it. That's your Googles, Microsofts, IBMs, etc. To everyone else, there is the question, why use deep learning when the dozen or so most popular ML algorithms suffice?

    It will be forever disputed.

People have been "moving the goalposts" on the definition of AI, and will continue to do so. For example, critics would point to how computers could not beat chess grand masters as a sign that AI had not been reached. When they finally could, the critics simply moved the goalposts and said the true test is something else. This is continue to go on for the next several decades. With every milestone computers reach, the critics will move the goalposts further.

On top of that, there literally be fans of different scientists and scientific research teams. These fans will downplay achievements by rival scientists and promote the achievements of their favorites. You will get assertions that scientist X has TRULY created AI in the year 2050 or something. Rivals will say that's wrong and research team Y invented it in 2045. There will be the usual bickering and calling sides "crazy' for believing a rival sector invented it first.

Its the ugly underside of humanity. Just encouraging this crap by asking this question and starting this thread kinda make me throw up a little.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

If by AI you mean an intelligence that thinks and behaves like a human, it seems most likely to happen within the porn industry because a) sex is a never-ending commodity and will always be in demand, which means money. And b) the desire for a real human connection is going to be very strong with 'entertainment-dolls'.

Military is another contender, however I don't see them having much use of a human-like AI. I imagine they rather have an AI that lacks the weaknesses of a human mind, but more importantly something that can be controlled.

Ah, the military's eternal desire for contradiction.

We want 50' tall murder robots with 17 cannons and the ability to rend the flesh from our enemies from over a mile away! Did we also mention it needs to be tame like a puppy around me and a murderous tornado of death around the enemy?
