Found the parent that hits their kid(s).
Inability to teach, without violence, is something you take out on your kid when you hit them. Lacking the skill isn't an excuse for violence.
Your parents put fear into your sister, not because she understood traffic and the implications. But because she feared getting a spanking.
It's called Negative Operant Conditioning. In fact it's proven time and time again, that it does more harm than good.

You might argue better than dead from running out into the street. If that's how you feel then there is no discussion to be had. You are OK with violence and will see nothing wrong with it. Won't see the short sighted goals, because you "seen" the "effectiveness" of the case.
Do some reading, if you still are OK with violence in teaching, then there is something wrong with you.
"Gershoff and Grogan-Kaylor tested for some long-term effects among adults who were spanked as children. The more they were spanked, the more likely they were to exhibit anti-social behavior and to experience mental health problems. They were also more likely to support physical punishment for their own children, which highlights one of the key ways that attitudes toward physical punishment are passed from generation to generation."
I don't think it's out of the question to suggest that you don't have a sound judgement, if you genuinly believe that sprinkling water warrants physical harm to the level of breaking bones.

If only I had said that!
What I actually said -- or rather implied -- is that the "studies" you people keep referring to are about people who beat their kids, rather than just disciplining them like humans have for the entirety of human existence. Even wild animals fucking do it, both predator and prey, because it is an effective tool for rearing children who don't grow up to be self-entitled pricks who threaten to burn down their parent's house and watch their parents burn to death (as one such self-entitled prick stated in this thread already).
Asking all the wrong questions on a questionnaire, and getting their information second-hand. Rather than performing an actual study on the subject. Sorry, but a questionnaire of people's opinions and personal outlooks doesn't mean jack shit to me.Especially when there just was a case concluded, of 50 years of studying and 160.000 subjects.
Nope, but not for that reason. I won't be changing my view any time soon thanks to the findings of the entirety of the human race. Including the last 30 or so years; 30 or so years in which kids have grown up to be spoiled, self-centered douchebags, almost all of whom are "anti-spanking" advocates, too.It begs to ask the question on why you would be so verbose on the subject about it, if you already are driven to conclude your own judgement regardless of the amount of findings saying otherwise. The findings answer that.
No more than you'll ignore entire potions of a post just because you have no real rebuttal, and can't formulate a thought of your own to save your fucking life. But you'd rationalize that away too, i suspect.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through out political and culture life, nutured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" —Isaac Asimov
I have no kid to hit. I was ok with my spankings, which were extremely rare and only when i royally fucked up something serious.
Ive also been through actual abuse, so I can tell between the 2. What you think of me is irrelevent. When I do have kids, I hope I never have to spank them. *shrug*

I can't approve of using violence against children in any circumstance, but I'm not sure a ban is necessary.
I guarentee your kids are the annoying ones ruining my overwatch games by screaming the n-word in the mic and trolling because they've likely never had their poor cute little ego's bruised and get whatever the fuck they want.
" OH whats that little pateuvasiliu? You disobeyed your mother and threw your shit onto the wall? Bad boy, here have a Popsicle, and remember, dont do it again!"

Amen.
Never understand the liberal left. Totally cool to scramble your unborn babies brains and suck em out into a vacuum and stick em in a trash bin. But don't smack em on the ass when they are out of control.... smh
Physical deterrent to wrong doing has been done since the dawn of human existence. It's been proven as a cheap and highly effective learning tool with minimal consequences when used correctly.
More importantly , it shouldn't be another persons and therefore the governments job to determine how you punish your child. Thank god I live in the good old Us of A.
People working 2 jobs in the US (at least one part-time) - 7.8 Million (Roughly 4.9% of the workforce)
People working 2 full-time jobs in the US - 360,000 (0.2% of the workforce)

See, you can't tell the difference. One because you allowed yourself to be abused because you didn't know the difference and, 2, you see no problem with inflicting violence to teach a lesson.
I know abuse as a child. Not spankings, not slap on the wrists, but bloody nose, cuts on over the eye and black eyes. Hit so many times I can't sit down. Bruises from getting choked out and thrown up and down stairs.
You need to read. Read. Read peer reviewed studies on Corporal Punishment and its effectiveness. Then come back and tell me how wrong your parents were. It will honestly change your mind.
But you won't, because you are OK with violence. Because I'm sure the abuse you went through sure taught you a lot right?
Corporal Punishment DOES NOT WORK IN THE LONG RUN.
Does this mean if I go to France on holiday with my kids that I'm unable to utterly destroy them at games like UNO, Chess etc?
