People that think political correctness is some sort of death knell to western civilization either:

1) Haven't graduated college

2) Haven't gone outside

I used to care about that stuff. Then I graduated from college and realized that it's really not that big of a deal. In the real world, none of this stuff is taken seriously and it barely happens.

Also, in retrospect, a lot of this "censorship" stuff is completely wrong. I really don't think people can honestly name one clear example where being PC led to censorship.

Speech alone is fine. PC culture is more than that. It causes people to riot and go on witch hunts when anyone disagrees with their perceived sole correct political opinion.

First, riots aren't restrained to liberals. Second, please give ONE example where political correctness led to riots. And I mean actual riots, not protests (which are protected under the 1st amendment and completely fine, even if you disagree with them).

I agree Brown was no saint and the shooting was probably justified, but boiling the riots down to the "white cop/black criminal PC dynamic" as straight PC is an oversimplification of a complicated issue (And it also wasn't the only reason that they rioted).

Anyway, back on topic, the "problem" they are talking about with porn, is that children are exposed to it on the internet at younger and younger ages. yes, we all had playboys back in the days, and we turned out fine. That's a far cry from DAP creampies and all the other crazy shit that's a click away now.

No one bats an eye about requiring people to be 18 to walk into a store and buy a porn DVD or magazine, but try to do that on the internet, and people freak out.

I don't know what the answer is. I don't know if it's even possible. I'm guessing they are looking closely at that law in South Carolina (I think?) that is mandating filters on computers. Can't say that would pass a court challenge, but that's the sort of solutions you should expect from a republican congress.

How is porn a problem...?

For starters, it sets an unreal expectation for sex. Talking about those who get exposed to porn before engaging in sex. From there leading to they way girls are treated by boys as sexual objects rather than equal human beings and interpersonal problems that come along with that. I have a few therapist friends that have seen a substantial rise in these kinds of problems in kids over the last 20 years. So it is a problem, but it is something I do not think the government needs to be involved in.
