Luckily the law agrees that adults should know better than to take advantage of kids and teens. So in the case of a teen sending nudes to an adult, it's the adult's responsibility to erase them because by definition they know better. Try having a teenage girl send you nudes and get caught with them, then try and say, "it's not my fault she sent it to me." It won't end well for you I can guarantee that.

OT: I hate the term cyberbully, it's way too vague. Criminal harassment is criminal harassment, and stalking is stalking regardless of what medium it is through. It's one thing if it's kids doing it to each other, legally you can imply that they may not fully know the difference between right and wrong. This guy knew what he was doing to these kids, there's nothing indicating otherwise. He had malicious intent and now he's paying for it. Good riddance I say.

He had her nudes and was threatening to send it to her family if she didn't send more. Yeah she was an idiot for sending the nudes, not going to the police and the other things that she was bullied over in school (like screwing some other chicks boyfriend) but this was a very real threat to her not just some dumb "That person made fun of me online".

Can't say that for certain, The reason these laws exist is because kids and teens can easily be manipulated by adults. Yeah it's her fault for not "knowing better" but it doesn't benefit their growth to blame them for making a mistake instead of looking at the adult who manipulated them to do so. I'm sure during the debacle she realized her mistake, unfortunately though it was too late.

My point is, there's not much point in discussing where the victim went wrong as it doesn't excuse what the abuser did.

So, thats a "no" then. From a person that used to think like you did until I got depressed - a word of advice: dont get depressed. we're the ones that die first. All jokes aside, its something that is really really really hard to honestly understand until its afflicted oneself, because it turns everything over.

To be fair, he didn't get 11 years for "cyberbullying." He got 11 years for criminal harassment, extortion, child pornography, etc. Illegal things that can still be done without coming into physical contact with the victim.
