To be honest I never thought this would go through after reading the article. He'd be blocked one way or another. Rather, the issue is it shows exactly the sort of thinking going on inside the Trump white house. This is fascism plain and simple. Armed military conducting raids and round-ups of civilians. Democracies don't do this sort of thing. Not if they want to stay democracies. It shows the Trump end game and where we are headed if they gain enough power and can override our system of checks and balances. A fascist state.

The NBC reporter yesterday was correct to ask "Why should we trust you?" Trump, both in person and through his surrogates, has lied about objective facts too often to be taken at his word anymore. He might not send the NG, I hope he doesn't. But Spicer, Conway, or even Trump himself saying "I'm not planning to" means literally nothing from the man who claimed God stopped the rain for his speech, during which people were rained on, on live television.

This could very well be Trump crying wolf. We will never know, until
a) the National Guard themselves denies that this is an option (doesn't prove Trump wasn't thinking about it, but good enough in context) or
b) four years pass and it never happens.

"There is no effort to do what is potentially suggested," he said. Spicer called the AP report "100 percent not true, adding that there was "no effort at all to utilize the National Guard to round up unauthorized immigrants."

What has been repeatedly discussed here is that you can't believe a single fucking official thing coming out of the White House right now.

First of all it the entire shitshow leaks like a rusty bucket that was used as a target practice, and more often than not every leak ended up getting confirmed, especially the ones that have been most vehemently denied by people like Spicer and Conway.

There are more cases, just google for them. Fact is that mistakes are made even right now when it is just normal police doing it. Do you really think that the situation improves when suspects are suddenly surrounded by a squad of heavily armed guardsmen?
But, of course, as long as the situation does never escalate or anything like that, the Guard can only arrest them. These people are still entitled to due process, especially when they claim to just have 'lost or misplaced' their documents (may or may not be true). Hence, they have to be brought to the immigration courts. Which already have a backlog of half a million cases ( https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/01/u...to-buckle.html ). People are already waiting upwards of a year to even get a hearing. So the best thing to do is, of course, to round up even more people, while not hiring more clerks to take care of them.
