Which PSU do I need for Geforce G1 GTX 980TI ?

    Hi,

I've recently built a computer after 10 years of not building,
And I bought a second hand PSU (Seasonic 560w X Series), and it was missing the SATA - 5PIN PSU cable,
So I bought two different cables, one didn't quite fit, and I kind of pushed it too strong, and the other one fit, but it didn't actually fit, cause no HD was recognized, at the end, the PSU burnt :/

So now I need a new PSU..

I understood also that 560w was border-line for my GPU, and it's better getting a 600 or 650w PSU rather than 550/60..

    Specs:

    i7 7700
    H110m-k
    Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980TI
    HyperX Fury 8GB 2133mhz X2

So if anyone could please recommend one,
    I'll really appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance,
    Len.

Non-K CPU, this one should do just fine, system power draw shouldnt exceed 450W ever, even if you overclock the shit out of that card.

Most PSU's in the 60-80 range are meh, spending 100 bucks gets you way more quality and a 10 year warranty:

    Cheers for the reply,

I'm now trying to decide between these 2:

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...att_power.html

    and http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/cs-seri...-certified-psu

Not sure which one is better... if it's worth it, or not.
Since the Corsair is Gold and the EVGA is bronze..

    You have that backwards

The EVGA supernova G2 is a much higher quality psu than the corsair you linked.

Stay away from Corsair's CS, CX and VS series. This EVGA is miles better but there is not point of overpaying for a Gold rated fully modular PSU with your configuration.

    Thanks for the reply,
Why ? Just wondering, cause tons of people have recommended the Corsair PSU..

Poor platform (in case of CS and VS) and component quality (all of them), high brand markup (it's Corsair afterall).

In fairness to Corsair their RM series isn't bad, still CWT though, whereas I think the g2 is superflower.

550w will remain suitable for any future single cpu/gpu system, but more headroom may equal less noise if you spend a lot of time with your gear at full load. (edit - and you have an otherwise very quiet system).

That is exactly why i have decided to overbuy PSU watts in my future builds, noise. I have a 520w antec right now, and with a 2500k and gtx 760 in some games i can hear the PSU fan spin up, id rather avoid that altogether and get a overkill PSU where the fan basically never has to spin up.

Why ? what does the gold rate has to do with my config?

I mean, it saves up on electricity too, so why not?

If u don't plan to upgrade the computer. Buy a 650 EVGA or corsair
Future is going down not up.

PC parts are using less power as they advance not more. 750 is way overkill unless he is using sli or xfire.

OT, get the type of PSU u want dont let people here tell you its a waste, thats their opinion.

If I were you I would get this one...I would not get a 750, installing a psu that is wattage overrated isnt a good thing, psu's like to be used.

    Thanks @moremana

I've been checking up on Google and I came up with a list of MSI that recommended atleast 600W for my 980TI..

I'm just thinking, if in the future i'd like to ugprade something, it's not worth having some extra wattage?
Perhaps not 750 then, but 650w, wouldn't that be ok ?
And also, is Corsair really THAT bad ?

Corsair has some good PSU's but those tend to cost a bit more, the RM series for one is pretty solid as are the HX and AX

https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-RM650...n%3A6906985011 Would be a good one for you

https://www.amazon.com/Seasonic-M12I...n%3A6906985011 is a pretty solid more affordable option (I have of of hese in a spare pc)

    Hi,
    I'm really anti seasonic...

The RM650x is a bit more expensive in my country.. bit out of my budget..

I'm just trying to think if I should just got for the CS650M .. since the EVGA 750w is such an overkill.. and I will not really use it to the fullest..

If you want a 750 that's fine, if you want corsair, that's fine hell get a 850 if you want. Its all up to you. I wouldn't and that's my opinion, its right for me, maybe not for you.

PSUs are finicky, people do not understand how important a good and efficient psu is, they cheap out or get overpowered ones because of epeen.

There is a article of psu's here and here you can read, and I would advise everyone to read those 2 articles, I know wiki can be misleading but there is a great deal of correct info there.

Before you buy whichever you want look at Johnnyguru.com he does the best reviews in my opinion.

I read a review on the new Corsair RMs and they don't look bad, I wouldn't buy one but again, thats my preference.

No you don't need to future proof your psu, good manufacturers of motherboards and video cards are LOWERING consumption as they advance so there is no future proofing needed on more wattage unless maybe one day you plan on using Sli or xfire which I have never seen a use over a single card for normal people without epeen issues. There are psu calculators all over the web, google it and those will give you an idea of how much you need, read the articles first.

The psu is the most important thing in your pc, understand it and never cheap out and that doesn't mean cost wise either. Read the articles and you'll see why.

Seasonic is one of the best brands around for PSU's so I don't see why you would have a problem with them. Ultimatelly it's your decision, from a quick search on jonnyguru the new corsair CS models are not bad, but you can do better for the money.

Thanks a lot for your reply, I truly appreciate it.

I'll tell you what I'm juggling around about,

The CS650M and EVGA 750 that I've previously linked, have a difference of about 15euro between them (the cs650m costs 15euro more, I'm assuming cause it'd gold and ofc, Corsair)...

I understand the 750w is "overkill" unless I expand my system (which is something I don't really see myself doing, be that SLI or xfire or whatnot).

But I'm just thinking that if the Corsair is more expensive anyway, even if not by much, and the EVGA is better and cheaper,
    Shouldn't I get that?

Why have you not already bought the 750w g2 lol. It is basically the best PSU on the market for an average builder.

You are lucky its still 99.99 on amazon, but that wont last because B&H price just went up.
