Yes, because while I confess that there are economical concerns, that powdered milk is really nasty for cheese making.

Unless they don't speak French... Then they will say that the country started in 1867. Or some old imperialists (like some current candidates for the Tory leadership) will say it started on the Plains of Abraham in 1759.

Canada : the country where no one agrees on its beginning and where the Constitution is a failure that should be talked about as little as possible...

Canada has always done agricultural protectionism so that its market was not eaten by the US... USA can already not sell their fake milk as drinking milk like they can in the US. So their only market in Canada was industrial use. Canada set the price of goods like milk and eggs within its border. To help its own agriculture sell to its own country, they changed it so that if sold for industrial use, real milk could be sold at international prices, aka lower then USA fake milk. With the market gone, USA producers are over producing and cannot sell anymore. This is them being short sighting and thinking they could easily eat another country market. Its funny that Trump blames Canada for doing what he wants to do. Also Canada never had any kind of free market for food.. Infact Canada is one of the most restrictive market for food import.

Meanwhile Canada skips out paying their UN dues (2% GDP), so let's not cry about dairy.

Hey, just try to import any foodstuff in the USA that would annoy farmers, even with competitive prices.

I wouldn't say GOP favors protectionnism. Maybe now, but back then, the GOP was the main proponent of free trade. Ronald Reagan negociated the free trade agreement between USA and Canada. George H. W. Bush signed NAFTA with Canada and Mexico. During George W. Bush mandate, there were talks about the creation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas, covering all the continent. Democrat representatives and senators were usually the most protectionnists.

Protectionism on Eggs and Dairy good was already in the agreement. They only changed the price of the milk to sell for industrial use... Because its what Canada protectionism is allowed to do under the free trade agreement, because food market is not free market. Your producers shot themsleves in the foot thinking they could cannibalize another country market, kinda like your emperor trump always whine about china for. It didnt work, Canada set its price lower, to sell its own milk to its own market Your cheetos emperor is literally whining because Canada is selling itself its own milk at a reduced price..... talk about a baby.

They favor protectionism now, which is the problem. The GOP has been pushing for protectionism in the past few years, which goes directly against their longstanding platform of free markets, limited government, and freedom. At least the Democrats are honest about their desire for pervasive government, the GOP is still in denial.

There is also the sheer hypocrisy of pushing for protectionism while asking at the same time for more free trade (one way free trade)
