People are living longer healthier lives than they used to, that means they can be active for longer. It wasn't that long ago you were done in and completely decrepit by 70. That isn't the case anymore.

That might have been a reasonable point before it came out that Reagan has early onset and was just about useless his last few years.

I don't think a candidate pushing 80 would be able to defend against attacks that he'd be too old and at too much risk for old people issues. And, frankly, I agree. There are too many things that slow down or go horribly awry with elderly people and their cognitive abilities. We want our president to be sharp and intelligent, not struggling to remember what he had for breakfast.

That may be harsh, but it's the reality of aging. The body may last longer, but the mind doesn't always.

I don't know. Biden is almost as old as sanders. Trump is already the oldest president to be elected at 70 and Biden would be...what...77 when election in 2020? 78 when he assumed office? That's just too old IMO.

I think regarding Donald Trumps presidency, there are only two possible future scenarios:

1.) Donald Trump is going to die before his presdency ends (a natural death, no force)
2.) He is going to get reelected in 2020.

Everything else seems less plausible, as the establishment wont try to get rid of him (as trump infact is a culprit of establishment) and as those who believed Trumps lies will also believe them in the next election. If idiots helped him once to get in power, they will help him once again.

Trump can destroy himself without taking the Republican Party with him, in which case they can replace him with Pence. If the Democrats do not have something to show, Pence can then seek a term.

The Dems will definitely need a solid candidate, no doubt. But if Pence is "up" in 2020 rather than a (hopefully impeached) Trump, it won't be nearly as tough.

The big hope is that Trump continues to self-destruct, and that the GOP finally (after losing yuge gains in 2018) turns on him.

Joe Biden would wipe the floor with him because Biden is a genuinely likable guy who's a great debater and public person. He'd also be the only one capable of winning the democratic party nomination without a major fight.

I also don't understand what people mean by "self-destruct". How pray tell do you actually think Trump is in a bad position politically? 80%-90% of all Republicans support him. The working class Obama and independent voters in the Rust Belt support him. In what wonderland does one assume he will lose power?

This a guy who went on a crusade against the GOP establishment and smashed them to pieces in the primaries despite them throwing EVERYTHING they could to stop him and then many of them refusing to support him in any way in the general election.

Despite the claims, despite the posturing, despite the big talk, I don't think Trump will run for a 2nd term. Why would he? As former President, he can charge thousands for speaking events, he can get more book deals, he'll have a lifetime retirment package, he'll still have secret service protection. I think it's more complications and trouble than he wants to deal with and at the end of the first term, he'll walk away from it.

Yeah, I know "ego" etc, etc. but that same ego will spin how successful he was in only 4 years when he walks away regardless of what he has or hasn't accomplished.
