Because there are actual withdrawal symptoms associated with abruptly stopping caffeine intake?
Also different people have different tolerance levels to it, so it doesn't affect everyone the same way and the same goes for withdrawal symptoms.

It's a legit addiction, it's just a socially condoned one (much like moderate alcohol use).
It's withdrawal symptoms are rather mild and it doesn't take long until they are gone, especially since they can easily be cured by a few cups of coffee.

Why? There are any number of things I do in the morning before and during which I want to be left alone. Among them include hygiene activities, dressing, eating, reading/watching news/weather/sports for a few, checking my list of things to do on the way to work, read/write emails, feed the cat, exercise, push the button so the island doesn't explode, and so on. There may or may not be coffee involved in that.
Note that all of those activities are adult things to do.

It's nowhere close to as bad as most addictive drugs. However don't underestimate how much it can effect people who have a more serious addiction to it. I've known people who can't function well without it, get terrible headaches and go into awful moods. You can do a quick google search for more serious withdrawal stories. Like I said, it's not a huge deal for most people, but for some it can be a terrible thing.
You eventually don't drink to 'wake up', you drink to 'not stay asleep'. Addictions are bad ok?
I am not addicted to coffee but still it's the amount of caffeine in it is the thing which makes your mind to ask for more, and believe who are addicted to coffee or caffeine, there day never starts until the supply is taken.

I gave up sugar and coffee a few weeks ago, the first few days were absolutely Brutal. Though now I don't have headaches before consumption of sugar and/or coffee in the morning.
Addictions be addicting.
I take a lot of caffeine(like, I drink more tea and coffee than water), but strangely don't have any side effects if I choose not to take coffee or tea for a few days in a row.

No coffee for me thanks.
However, coffee is the second most traded commodity in the entire world!
The story of how the coffee bean came to the new world is a very interesting one. You all should look it up.
