Why are so many against skimpier armor?

I've occasionally seen it as a topic on the general forum: players wanting a few more options for skimpy armor. Every time there is a large amount of opposition against it. But why?

The most common argument I've seen is that it isn't realistic. That for example, a Warrior isn't going to go to a fight showing off their legs and middriff. This one I've understood the least since Warcraft is pretty much defined by unrealistic weapons and armor. For instance the first tier in Warlord of Draenor has warriors sporting armor that seems to have an internal furnace built in, spinning chain saws on over sized pauldrons, and a giant lava filled, spiked, fire belching belt, all of which would not only prevent the warrior from moving, but also very likely cause them extreme harm. Not only that, but why would a heavy plated armor defend someone from say, a hyper charge bolt of lightning, any more than skimpy belly showing armor? Not to mention no one has any problem with hiding head gear.

Another common argument is the all to common "You're just immature if you want sexy armor". Once more, looking at other armors in the game they tend to be over designed, filled with bright colors, completely none-sensical, often with themes that you would most commonly find doodled in a middle schoolers text book. Warcraft is more or less defined by rule of cool. Saying a plate-kini is any more immature than wearing the glowing bones of a dragon is asanine. They are both their own kind of immature, and thats fine. Thats what the setting is all about. Its a setting where people go around wielding giant swords bigger than they are with edgy backstories like "This sword drank the darkness of an evil god" or "These swords are from the remnants of a vampiric soul eating rune blade".

So why are so many against skimpy armor? Seems even blizzard is, which is a bit ironic given how many of their designs are blatantly pandering especially when it comes to showing off men.

Well what I think is instead of trying to morph WoW into that they can just go play Porn and Soul or Scarlet Blade
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.

I don't like skimpy armor (read: Slut mog stuff) because I think it looks very non-serious. I dont mind the midriff being shown though and have never counted that as ''skimpy''. I don't go and tell people they look ridiculous tho if they DO wear slut mogs since its not made for me to like, but for them.

I like to show parts of my arms with my mogs because it looks more comfortable (like in real life).

They're the SJW's of WoW. Logic? Reasoning? Pah, doesn't apply to their thought process.

Somehow it's entirely realistic to have a gnome beat a T-rex to death with his fists, but if said gnome is also wearing revealing armor?? Muh immursiunz!!!

But armored bikini makes perfect sense?

Because it makes literally ZERO sense even in fantasy setting.

Well it's rather easy to make the argument that you can somewhat justify the shitty(from a IRL PoV) armor and weapons by "Oh, it's empowered by X" or the usual magic excuse. For extremely revealing armor you can't really do that, at least with any kind of serious face on.

Now for actual reasons - looking at the current events and how people are looking for something to be offended about if Blizz was to add revealing armor it would receive a lot of negative publicity. I doubt that it's in Blizz's interests in any way, especially as they'd really not get any kind of benefits, financial or otherwise, from adding revealing armor.

Presumably because it ruins their immersion to see a scantily clad character running around.

    I personally couldn't care less.

I would guess that it is just mostly preference. As you mention the logic that is sometimes used is quite lacking, but then on the other hand, I can't even think of a bad reason as to why armour should be skimpy.
Personally, I can stand it on some classes like light and medium, but any plate or mail with a midriff or acting as a bikini top and I just shake my head.

because it's stupid and unrealistic. also it does kinda bother me how it kinda trivializes women in these stories "oh sure, you can be kinda badass, but you have to appease my boner while doing it."

    realistic armor enhances fantasy.

Skimpy armor really only makes sense for ranged classes that are stationed AWAY from any pointy objects, mostly because cloth already doesn't provide much protection.

As for melee, sure less armor = more mobility but going "belly free" and exposing vital organs is basically idiotic. Same goes for showing thighs.

Did you just ignore the rest of the post?

Point is that even the fully armored stuff makes very little to no sense.

Yes. An armored bikini does make more sense, than say, this:

At least in an armored bikini you can move around without hurting yourself.

I don't like them because in 2017 their textures are simply too low res

There are plenty of options available for different tastes anyway.

At first I wondered what he meant with skimpy armor, but I guess it's just "slutmog".

I dont like slut mogs because they feel cheap and not powerful. It especially bothers me when the same piece covers everything in a male character but its a bikini or a tong in a female.

I wanna play as a powerful and badass female, not as a stripper

How are you hurting yourself? For info, the spikes are not inside the armor.

IMO either brand of unrealistic is tedious. Even if WoW has always been high fantasy with some impractical design, but it's a sliding scale. Sets that aren't absolutely crazy with glowing lavalamp shoulders are the best ones. There's a reason vanilla sets like paladin T2, rogue T2, lock t3 etc are still legendary.
