Guess it is time to start calling it what it is then:
Being-a-giant-dick-to-a-section-of-humanity-for-no-legitimate-reason.
Might get a little hard to use, but at least it gets the point through, right? I look forward to people like the OP calling out all the being-a-giant-dick-to-a-section-of-humanity-for-no-legitimate-reason for the rest of their life now that we solved the big issue with the whole thing, the word it was being called before.
So the OP quoted Merriam Webster I kind do it too :
You know what word has been hijacked from his original sense ? "Hijack" "left" "paint", should we boo you too because you apply a different meaning than the first one created for that word ?Intolerance or aversion for
Yes words can have several meanings and change through time, big deal so what ?
The idea of "phobia" being hijacked for some kind of evil agenda just show how much delusional and out of argument you are when you can only do some (wrong) semantic argument. That do not invalidate xenophobia and other lovely things existance, just put a name on it.
Being a giant dick for arbitrary reason would be sorter.

The word "left" has been hijacked by the right to paint everyone else bad
Did someone use "phobia" and you got offended, OP?
Come on, you can't just get your feelings hurt whenever someone says something stupid online.
You guys are getting more and more ridiculous each day.
Beeing feared, intolerant or aversed towards sth doesn't mean the one hates it or be a dick. But nowdays the meaning of this word in context of homosexuality or other nationalities has changed to be something straight negative, it just means some group of ppl hates gays or ppl of different nationalities, which is not always a case. Beeing afraid of sth doesn't automaticaly mean You hate it.
Perhaps you should use these terms, in the proper context of course not just as hyperbole. Left and right have a vast range to them, so not all people on the left fit into the extreme categories you present. When you say "left" you are basically assuming anyone who is left of center, even a little bit, is lumped with the crazies.
This goes both ways, and I think it's both a form of ignorance .
Plenty of straight guys call stuff 'gay' or others 'fag' yet this somehow had nothing to do with homosexuality/masculinity (in the first place). Right, cognitive dissonance working for you.
I've noticed it's become such a common thing to say that all sorts of people now use it.
A bit like the ' that's homophobic!' outcry at every thing that's not perfectly coddle coddle when it comes to sexual preference. People should afterall happily accept every colour, configuration and weight in the bedroom, too!
Those words got 'hijacked' for a reason, to denote something.
