Well said. Going voluntarily to a place like this is the act of a fool.

As for myself, I will never (willingly) be found outside the Anglosphere (Britain, Ireland, Canada, USA, Australia, & New Zealand), unless surrounded by a division of US Marines.

These 6 nations constitute the legacy of perhaps the most beneficial civilization ever to exist on this Earth; the British Empire. Of course the British Empire was not utterly blameless. The sins of any empire are scarlet, and Britain's was no exception. Nonetheless, if weighed in the balance, it's my view that British civilization has been vastly beneficial for mankind.

She brought it upon herself. I'd been shocked had this happened in a western country.

    Of course it has.

Doesn't mean it's the country with the highest living standards though. In fact, there seems to be a lot of misery, poverty, criminality and troubles with authorities being unable to cope. Plenty of countries outside of the "Anglosphere" lead the way in personal freedom, living standard, low criminality and so on.

Hmm, you could choose something of that still in anglosphere, but not UK or USA. IMHO you better would have to learn german and live in Luxemburg, Liechtenstein or Switzerland to gain a pretty score on those conditions.

    There are stupid laws everywhere.

Sorry but misleading title. You do to a country where x (however stupid it sound) is against the law you have a choice:

dont go or dont break the law.

for the OP: yeah here is a list for you of stupid laws. have at it: http://justsomething.co/the-22-most-...ffect-today-2/

Silly people naively thinking their "love and tolerance" goes both ways. Laws in most Islamic countries contradict with love and tolerance, so don't go there. Besides, plenty of areas to enjoy Sharia law in the UK.

smuggling drugs is a crime in basically every single country. having sex with someone is not, unless you count prostitution, but yeah I don't see why she had to go back there. if she was happy in London with her fiance, and her ex was in Dubai why bother going there to file a complaint against him? if he came to London and started harassing her then file a complaint in London and he will get arrested.

Drug smuggling and consensual sex are very different actions.

No its the fault of the UAE for having and enforcing retarded laws. Its also the fault of the UK for not threatening to nuke the place if they don't release their citizen.

Okay, while I understand that this is a "Situation", the real question is this.

Why was she in Dubai in the first place?

That may be a fair point, but that doesn't excuse countries for retaining retarded laws that haven't been relevant for centuries. Especially when those laws are based on make believe.

Outdated and silly laws can be found in practically every country and what laws are enforced and attempted to enforce makes all the difference.

So? You should be aware of the laws in a country. There has been a lot of media attention over the years about Dubai and cases where women are penalized for having sex outside of marriage, how can someone possibly have missed this? You have to be very ignorant or believe that you don't need to research laws of a country before going there in the first place to fuck up in this magnitude.

This seems like just an attempt to engage in nation-bashing, and the posts don't help, so I'm locking this here.
