If, when reforging, instead of being able to pick the stat you want, you walk to the reforger and it picks a random stat for you that you can't change and can't know what it is until you visit the reforger.
Fucking. Brilliant.

Hes saying its like the reforger except it chooses what to reforge for you and makes it permanent, and you still gotta walk to it (aka worse then the reforger)
The only problem is the reforger took stats from one and put it into another, Netherlight doesn't take away anythin. Its more like it gives you a random enchant that you can't change.
My point is they took out reforging because they didn't want people to have to walk to a vendor to make their piece usable. Then they add in a new system that makes us do exactly that with two heaping scoops of RNG added on top of it.

I kind of can't believe people here are actually defending the Netherlight Crucible as a system.
But then again it is Mmo-champion, so I guess I can.
so instead of having a relic with 1 trait you get one with +5ilvls and 2 additional traits at no extra cost (once you unlock the slots).
how dare they give us things! obviously not having additional traits (whether you like them or not) is better, right?

i cant believe people are bitching about (fill in the blank).

This design reminds me of one communism description, which I'll paraphrase to fit the WoW theme.
Problem #1: not enough sources for players to get relicsBlizzard heroically fights with the problems they casued
Problem #2: even id relic drops, wrong stat for current class
Source of problem: bad relic design
Root source: Blizzard's developer team
Solution: make Reforging 2.0 with RNG on top of it
End of fixing*

*- which creates new problems...
The biggest problem for me and I saw no1 discussing it,is how from new patch people will stop trading relics, like they (sometimes) do now.
-"hey man can I have your relic?its 20 ilvl upgrade for me and 10 ilvl downgrade for you"
-"erm sorry i might get bis traits on the crucible, cant trade"
You read the mmo-champ forums but don't bother with the main page or what? This has been answered by a blue already.
They had a problem with you going to the reforger for every piece of gear that dropped. This is only relics.
Let's be honest here, you are also wrong about the functionality. The crucible makes relics closer to each other and makes more relics useable rather than trash. The little random 600 stats or proc on tier two is too insignificant to make a difference. What it makes is eliminate the need to farm high mythic+ for relics with the perfect trait that never drop and make your life miserable (because the raids don't drop your BIS ones).
So, yeah theres some RNG, but theres 3 dice from a pool of 5 or 6 results. It's not perfect, but it's better than the chance you had for your perfect relic to drop from the mythic+ run or the weekly chest.
They had a problem with you leaving to reforge in general, the fact that they brought back the system even for 1 item is bad game design, and relics drop off every boss so every boss someone most likely will need to leave raid, go to Dalaran (yay dalaran loading screen), port up the spaceship and then do it everytime a relic drops, everytime.
Lets be honest, all it does is make it easier to get one specific trait, it does NOT bring relics closer together. It does allow bad relics a chance to be not so bad, however, it makes it much much much harder (or random I guess) to get the perfect/best relic. Not only do you now need to get a relic with a good trait to start off, it needs to also roll a good secondary trait and roll a good talent connecting the two together, otherwise you'll need to keep needing on relics. Also you may still need to farm Mythic+ runs because your best or second best relic might not be from the raid, and not only that if the relic does drop if it rolls a bad secondary trait (like bonus shadowmend healing as a dps) or talent you need to keep farming!
It does not reduce trashing relics, it increases it. Every relic can roll extremely well and you won't know till you preview it but if you preview a relic it it becomes soulbound so if it rolls poorly you have to vendor it instead of trading it to a guildy. Offspecs will never get relics again.
Also it adds another layer of "checking websites to see whats better" to a system they already said they didnt like that you did that. A 950 relic with underwhelming traits and a bad talent could be WORSE then a 920 relic with 2 good traits and a good talent, which a majority of players won't know and will equip it anyways cause its a 30ilvl increase effectively nerfing themselves.
However ... I would be okay with the system if they allowed you preview the relic in raid without it soulbinding you.

I actually quite like random stuff. The previous "relics get another random trait" was interesting. This one's interesting to me too.
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.
