Maybe they could express everything in percentages.
I didnt play prior to Cataclysm, but I do miss those numbers tbh. Numbers arent a big deal for me ofc, but I did like 'em better when they werent humongous. The increase in stats are a bit over the top imo.

I don't care one way or the other.
If they want to fix it permanently they can show a percentage of health as damage.
Small numbers, makes both sides unhappy. Sounds like a compromise to me.
Be careful what you wish for.

First time hitting for 100, 200, 500, 1000, 10000, 20000
Or being a tank hitting 1000, 5000, 10000, 50000, 100000 health felt significant. I suppose seeing a bear druid at 10,000,000 was kinda cool but at that point it's just an inflated joke.
When damage is popping around with 4 significant numbers and 3 clutter ones like critting for 1,493,392 it just starts to blend together in a mess you don't bother comprehending. Then it's just a bunch of numbers arcing all over and in the end you just look at whose Skada-penis was the longest. Then again, I also believe part of the reason you no longer really *feel* the damage you're doing is because combat is so smooth it's like fighting air. Playing without sounds is PAINFUL when there's so little visual impact.

Nothing lasts forever, as they say.
But at least I can casually play Classic and remember when MMORPGs were good.
Honestly, I'd like for everyone to have around 100hp and deal 5 damage. It feels better to me for whatever reason. I know no squish will dare go so far, though.
Carefull guys we have a gifted wonder child over here.
So you managed to solve my problem a few posts back instantly right? You are so gifted that you look at those 11 different numbers and you can INSTANTLY tell which one is the "2 million".
Amazing, you are better than any of us. You are "Ealyssa, wonder child"
Here is the problem i made just so i don't steal the precious time of your brilliant mind:

Yeah. I'd say and the probably rush of good feels you get when you see your highest ever X hit. Like say you've only ever been able to hit 10k damage with Obliterates before, but you just hit a 10327. You can see that number. It's hard to tell when you've actually achieved your highest hit when the numbers are like 397568 versus 396453. Just looking at them right now then you'll find no problem usually. When you're dodging fire in a raid then sometimes you can't see and it sorta invalidates even having combat text in the first place.
Frankly, it legit doesn't matter because it's all relative, but I know I personally enjoyed seeing my floating combat text during raids in Wrath when the numbers were easy to process with zero effort.
Numbers are fun..
Big numbers are big fun..
Huge numbers are huge fun..
#fact
Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

they are inflated like crazy, but it makes no gameplay difference, in fact we are basically at vanilla/tbc values: my char has 4700k hp, it deals 1000-2000k dps. we are at a point where we abbreviate 3-6(!) digits of the actual number. omegalul

The oohs aahs of big numbers is long past for me. The hyper inflation within an expansion is something I do not like.
Don't care about the numbers themselves. It's all relative. Doesn't matter if I hit for 20 or 2,000,000 if they both count for 10% of an enemy's health bar.
Meh, dislike.
I like it when the bigger crits mean something. One extra digit on screen for large crits feels better when it's from 3 to 4 digits, instead of 6 to 7.
Large backstabs was the coolest shit in level 60 PvP. Now it's closer to "oh.. good for me".
Well excuuuse me, Princess.
