Murlocs as the next playable race--thread #243452

Hi all! So i'll start by saying that they probably didn't, and that this is wild speculation, but when i was looking at the description of the murloc kigurumi, I noticed a particular tidbit here: https://imgur.com/a/pfKna .It struck me as odd to specify that murlocs were newly-emerged when they've been around since wc3. it's not even like they are new lorewise, as there are many other races that i would consider 'newly-emerged' before murlocs (worgen, pandaren, mogu, nightborne, etc). So unless the new xpac involves more murlocs, i can't understand why they would use that term.
I'm probably just over-speculating, but hey, that's half the fun of the month or so before BlizzCon

I know we have probably a billion mention of this in various threads, but this new thing kind of tickled me in gross places. Tinfoil hat thoughts?

If the XPAC is revolving around "Sea" and Azshara we will have Murlocs en masse. Does that mean we'll get them as a playable race? No. Murloc as playable race makes zero sense.

What would they add to the game that we as "heroes" need? They are not outstanding with magic or fighting or smithing or anything else. They're just there as a "lower servant race". Sounds harsh but that's it for 99,9% of the Murloc population.

Option 1: Barely any visual difference like gnomes (take the hair off and they even have the same animations)
Option 2: Extreme gender dymorphism ala draenei and female murlocs suddenly are some sexy she-fishes?

Murlocs make no sense for the reason they can't talk... they evolved into the Jinyu, THOSE would make more sense as a race, but since you haven't seen them since Pandarian, I wouldn't bet on it.

To be honest Murlocs as playable race is not so stupid and hilarious. If we assume what next expansion will be about South Sea, Kul Tiras and Naga then Murlocs can fit the theme. For example Azshara's or N'zoth shenanigans can affect underwater race like Murlocs to bolster their evolution or mutate them. Or as we know Wound will cause Azeroth to bleed and everyone know what happened to dark trolls after they discovered Well of Eternity (BTW Silithus do have murlocs at south edge of zone).

After all Pandaren like and Murlocs in W3 both were joke races.

C'mon guys, let's be real. They'll do Playable Murlocs if it looks profitable enough and that is it. The lore is already shrieking in pain on the floor, another kick would not make a difference.

The Rule of Epic would also apply.

Pretty sure a female Murloc just looks like a Murloc. Maybe more or less fins or different colouring? Many fish look identical regardless of sex - hell some are both or freely transition back and forth depending on environmental factors, age or the like.

I... don't hate... the idea of Murlocs. I can see how some people would hate it. That dude who was super-mad about pirates would probably just have a heart attack if Murlocs got made playable. But personally whilst I'm not keen on the idea, I think it could work, and whilst we'd have a burst of them to start with, they'd probably be Panda-rare with a year or so.
