    Overkill for what?

I'd switch out that CPU for I7-7700K and motherboard as well and instead get 1080Ti.

Why do you even need that CPU, bragging rights? It's nigh pointless unless you have real professional needs. If it's gaming 7700+1080Ti is just a better combination.

Also, pick another brand for your gpu if it's going to stay a 1080... the EVGA ones are pretty risky with their shoddy cooling system.
Just had a 1070 FTW last week brought in because it started smoking up and died...
Intel i7-10700k | ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-F GAMING
    ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti | 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400Mhz
    A-Data SSD SP920 256GB | Seagate 1TB 7200rpm | NZXT Kraken x62
Fractal Design Define R6 TG | be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 650W | Asus ROG Swift PG279Q
Razer: Blackwidow Elite | Basilisk Ultimate | Nari Ultimate| Firefly | NZXT Hue+

ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte and EVGA are brands that I never would want to have in my computer.

first of all , for which games ?, but Gaidax is right ,since u pick a high freq monitor guess is gaming mostly which i come with the next suggestions
buy cheaper ram , ram doesnt mater for gaming
case is personal preference, there is no wrong here but u are buying a very expensive and old case , probably like 5-7 years old , was amazing at its time but now u can get better cases also cheaper, but if u definitely love this case , u are buying the right choice
i would definitely buy better power supply
im not fan of AIO water coolers, they normally tend to have cheap hoses, pumps , mounting br.... everything, so either go full costum water loop, ek and other brands alrdy sell full kits, or a tower cooler , Noctua NH-d15 is just a beast , as good or even better than a lot of AIO water coolers , and very quiet

Ok Gigabyte is atm king of DOA but Asus and AsRock ?

AsRock improved alot over the last 6-8 years and make very good motherboards for a low price.
Asus is most of the time overpriced but the performance is ok and they leading in many hardware sales.

If this build is for 'gaming', there's a huge waste of money going into X299, even if you want it to 'last a while'.

That build would be much more powerful in every way and slightly cheaper. Probably not available until December though, but worth the wait.

Rofl, EVGA isn't "unsafe". Get out of here.

Seeing all these exploding EVGA 1080s, I'd give them a wide berth this time around.

I understand I hurt your EVGA feelings, seeing your setup, but this was an actual thing there.

EVGA is a proven brand. Hyperbole doesn’t work on intelligent people, I’m afraid.

Not sure why you are raging here, the VRM issues for EVGA 1080s lineup was very real and well documented, as such I would not suggest EVGA because you may end up picking up a faulty card that was lying in stock from that time.

That's what intelligent people do - learn from mistakes of other unfortunate souls who got their hardware toasted by EVGA 1080.

The 1070 i mentioned above was bought less than 3 months ago.. and wasn't from the very old batch so.. no.
I wouldn't trust EVGA this gen, maybe next (i've always loved kingpin editions)

ASRock is the budget brand of ASUS and ASUS has a history of overheating laptops... yes ASUS makes laptops that overheats and dies on you.

£310 for a case is a lot of money to throw away on five fans and some aluminium, especially since you have got a water block for the cpu. You can shave atleast £80 off and still get a really good case.

Also, that 6TB harddrive will probably be dead long before you fill it unless you are doing tons of video editing, installing a fuck ton of games (most of which would be on the SSD), or downloading all the porn you possibly can.

I have two 250ssds and a 1TB harddrive with all my music, videos, sound samples for composition. The harddrive is 6 years old, dying and still has 200gb to spare. So dropping the harddrive, would likely save atleast £50 on the suggested build.

You would be surprised... though I do concede that I could probably delete a lot of shit and free that up.

IMO, a good large storage is a good idea to have long-term and it's not THAT terribly expensive to have either if it's just some HDD without bullshit attached, especially when that guy pays frikkin' 320 pounds for a damn case, meaning he seems to have money to burn and 6TB HDD in comparison is a much smarter investment there and cheaper as well.

Honestly that case... IMO anything over half of that price is simply pointless. I mean... why?

What ? 6TB is nothing these days. A few 4k movies and BL 1080p rips and the 6TB are full ^^.
